The basic presentation is that a prediction is written on paper and then folded (or it was written in advance) and the paper is set in full view of the audience. A card is selected and the prediction is revealed to be wrong. But with a flame held to the ink, the ink transforms to the right card. I know the method and likely you do too.
Is there a "the original" version of this effect? I am having trouble getting performance tips developed. The biggest hurdle is a need for the lighter. I've shown it to a few friends just for some testing, and after the false reveal I ask them what their card actually was and ask them to say it into the mic (the lighter), as that is just a goofy thing that is "me" that my friends would get. I've also read about saying that you wrote the prediction late last night in the dark and the prediction has a bunch of scribbles on it, so you use the lighter to light it up or something like that. What are some other presentations you have used that have worked well? |

Here is a DVD with a lot of effects similar to what you say there. https://store.stonecoldmagic.com/p/dvds/......fire-dvd
And a PDF of effects https://store.stonecoldmagic.com/l/ebook......pdf-only Jeff is a great Teacher as well as reviewer. He put together some good stuff here. Although I do not personally use this "concept / product" I have seen and read a bit of it in the past and can vouch that it is probably the absolute best stuff you will find on this subject.

^I saw that. It looks great, but it looks to be a bit more content then I am looking for.

The lighter is going to justify itself once you show the effect. You could come up with a joke or a pun or whatnot, but really, the fact that the writing morphs in front of their eyes is enough to justify just about anything. The fact that fire is involved only makes it cooler. Which is impressive, since fire usually makes things hotter. Ahaha. Sorry.
There are other effects that could be done with the lighter, if it helps. Having it already in play and/or responsible for having made other magic happen can help you establish a theme. Daryl teaches a nice Burnt Card trick on his Revelations DVDs. You could also have a prediction on the lighter itself. You could shuttle pass the prediction paper for some flash paper and then light it again "to destroy the evidence" -- since you're holding a lighter anyway, you've essentially got magic wand cover to help smuggle it in. I'm not sure if John Carey visits these parts much, but he has a clever presentation involving the principle. You may be able to convince him to share it via compliments and/or blackmail.

In the spirit of Halloween, here is an idea...
In one of the MindBlasters ebooks (there are a couple and I can't remember which one) there is an effect called "The Devil Rides Out" where a drawing of the devil transforms into the selected card. You can make the presentation as spooky or as light as you like, but the idea of something ELSE changing into a playing card (or a word) seems more interesting to me than one card changing into another. Simple idea, and of course, to see the before/after pictures you'll need to get a hold of MindBlasters.
