A STAGE ILLUSION NOW A CLOSE-UP ILLUSION
Eric Bedard created his original suspenZ 25 years ago. During that time, he shared it with a very small handful of professional magicians who have been performing it in their act. Recently VORTEX magic approached Eric and together created an updated machined gimmick that allows you to perform incredible suspensions from your hand. Use ANYTIME in your act - A variety of ways to use this gimmick... SUSPEND A DECK OF CARDS SUSPEND MONEY SUSPEND BUSINESS CARDS SUSPEND CREDIT CARDS suspenZ allows for THREE amazing moments. 1) You spread the cards between your hands further than your normally could. 2) You take one hand away and the cards remain suspended. 3) You can reach over and take out a chosen card, and then hand the deck out. START AND END CLEAN COMES COMPLETE WITH: SPECIAL MACHINED GIMMICK DOWNLOAD TUTORIAL - Learn how to use the gimmick - Variations on suspensions - How to care for your gimmick LEARN TWO EFFECTS - Chosen card from suspension and BLANK DECK suspension. Perfect bit of ‘magic along the way’ to build into so many of your current routines..
I liked a device on the market many years ago that allowed an extra long ‘impossible’ spread of cards.. it was great fun. However, you couldn’t take one hand away.. This adds a LOT more. MoM have it on the site shipping from the UK with free worldwide shipping here: https://www.magicshop-deals.com/products/suspenz Release day is November 11th Hope this helps Dominic

This is well built, carefully thought out, and has clearly been evolved. The result affords you a sturdy, supported, and steady spread. It also allows a discrete move in and out of play. I think most owners will appreciate the value. Hope this helps Dominic

Have just taken the plunge because I've always loved a version of this which is no longer available - but you couldn't remove one hand. Will post a review once it arrives...though likely to be a 7-10 day wait from the look of things.

Larry D. and Dominic R. - I still have my old Kirkendall double. I used it for a publicity photo ages ago, as the impossible card spread is a somewhat rare example of something that looks impossible in a single photo. I never used it in live performance, though, for several reasons. (1) You had to either steal the gimmick or use it as an opener (minor problem). (2) The spread could be a little tippy and unstable if you weren't careful, leading to an embarrassing cascade of cards to the floor. (3) Related to #2, you couldn't close the spread slowly. (4) Upon closing the spread, a somewhat awkward and hard to conceal finger-fiddle under the deck was necessary to *gently* get the gimmick fully retracted instead of having it audibly snap back. (5) You were left dirty, needing to ditch a gimmick, AND needing to ditch it at a time when anyone with half a brain would suspect you might have some gimmick in your hand, even if they couldn't picture what the gimmick might be.
If Suspenz solves about half of these problems, I'll purchase it. Anyone interested in this effect should also see Rostrum by Jared Arroyo, a recently released instant download available at Penguin. His method also uses a you-know-what, but it's a single one purchased at the office supply store, not a double from Kirkendall. Arroyo's contribution was inventing a clever way to have the gimmick operate from the body instead of being concealed in the hand. I thought it was a decent download for $7.50, but like the old Kirkendall method, it still had some inconvenience and awkwardness. My verdict on Rostrum was, Good job and good thinking, but not quite the ultimate solution we're still searching for to achieve this excellent and unusual effect. John Kennedy used the Kirkendall double to do the impossible card spread, and added an extra twist. He would first have a card selected and returned. After spreading the cards using the Kirkendall, a card in the middle of the spread would magically animate, sliding over slightly and then turning over to reveal the selected card. (The method was IT, of course.) |

Instead of showing effectively the same thing a hundred times in the trailer, why don't they show something useful like an actual performance which includes the getting into and out of the effect. One can only assume the 'getting into' part is awkward otherwise why wouldn't they put it in the trailer.
An elastic loop up the sleeve will do the same thing, minus the one handed thing of course (something I read in a beginners book years ago). But removing a hand as per the trailer is not so good in my opinion. If you're going to do that, make it very brief. Otherwise it doesn't look very magical. |

Got this yesterday and the quick summary is; " this trick is awesome and well worth the money....I'm selling mine for half the price, because I'm a nice guy "
NOW THE REAL SUMMARY: REALLY...£50 for this??????? The gimmick is not precision made and there has been little attempt to make it practical. This would have been okay as a £20 trick. I'm not sure it would fool anyone. The instructions are poor and you can see the creator struggling to use the gimmick. Save yourself some money guys! I've taken another one for the team...someone else's turn next! |

People never learn. If it was actually practical it would be shown as such in the trailer.

Martin Breese used to sell a double reel watch that was a pretty nice solution, minus the one handed thing of course. Nice thing was that you could always have it on you and use it any time.

I think this has certain advantages over the double r**l method which has been mentioned. Obviously, the one handed bit, but also the weight it will support - which is rather more than just a deck of cards. That being said, for me it is at best an 'extra' in the context of a longer routine. I do think the gimmick is small enough to ring in and out fairly easily, but my bigger concern was that the teaching starts with an explanation of how to make the gimmick stronger! Now I haven't used mine for any length of time so can't comment on the strength properly, but it does make you a bit nervous when that's the first thing they talk about!!!
