Does version two come with better instructions than version one?
Specifically, have the concerns MeetMagicMike addressed on the previous page of this thread been addressed and explained in detail? Thank you. |

I've got the 'first' version of this. However, after reading, I must be doing something incorrectly. Soaking cards the appropriate amount - Check. Putting 1 at a time in the thin plastic piece. Check.
Successful lighting after a meal at a restaurant? No. Fluid evaporates in minutes. Could use some help...... |

I recently had an opportunity to test the Pyro and a Kapps on 126 college students. A business card was produced from both wallets and handed out. Afterward the students completed a short Likert survey.
Interestingly (to me at least), the burning card coming from the Pyro was statistically no more surprising to the students than the non-burning card coming out of the Kapps. Students were however, statistically more inclined to keep the card coming from the Kapps wallet than from the Pyro. In our brief qualitative interviews we learned (not surprisingly), that students thought the burning card from the Pyro “smelled funny” and looked “singed.” All the usual research caveats apply here, but I’m pretty convinced there’s no real benefit to using the Pyro wallet. It’s a nice idea but my guess is that from a spectator’s point of view, fire is fire. It’s evidently just as surprising to see fire coming from a wallet as it is to see it coming off an object taken out of a wallet. And human memory being what it is, I do wonder if spectators will even remember a distinction between the two a week or month later. So for me, the pros of the Pyro wallet don’t overcome its cons. As magicians I think we are somewhat jaded from the standpoint that we know about fire wallets and to us they are kind of “old hat.” Producing a flaming object from a wallet is a new take on an old idea and we are drawn to the latest thing because it looks cool and different from the age-old flaming wallet. But is this improvement really better in the eyes of people who don’t know about flaming wallets? Our little research experiment says “no.” |
