You'll cross paths with this guy in various forums,
here at the Café.
Besides being a 'SNEAKY, UNDERHANDED, DEVIOUS,& SURREPTITIOUS ITINERANT MOUNTEBANK',..
he also has an un-satisfi-able love and curiosity for Magic.
,..the Art.
...the Science.
,..,the Business.
,...the History.

Combining ALL of these things,
I'm going to try to nail him here(!).
Dick is the last of a great group of 'conspirators',
to the foundation of our passion.
Bobo's.

'Coin Go'.
What page exactly, Dick?
Great trick.
It 'works'!

I thought it might be cool,
To get someone,...
to film you,..YOU,
doing the effect!
Your effect(!..!).

Maybe, tells us a little about Mr. Beaubeau himself(?).
'Why.',..'How?',...what he thought about,
...putting the book together.

What was Bobo's favourite?
What was Bobo's 'source of knowledge'?

,...what effect did not publish?
Your favourites?,..?

öK.
The tip of the iceberg.
I'll open the door,..
I'm curious,..HOPEFULL,
.of what follows(!). 🙃
Thanks,
Gallagher

I was asking Ron Bauer about him. All three of us live in Michigan.

How are you mike, hope you are well my friend... Smile

Hey, I was just asking about Ron Bauer the other day when I was speaking with one of his top students, Tom Gaddis...And that after touching bases with Sandra Kort... I still have his signed "Gadabout Revisited" booklet from them both...wonderful folks. Smile

And absolutely anywhere you can catch up with Dick is a good place to sit back, listen and learn...Bobo is but one of the many great mountains in magic he's climbed to the very top of as to experiences, relationships and mutual respect, I'm sure. Smile

It's funny this subject should come up as I was just talking about it. I ordered a copy of New Modern Coin Magic And I was skimming through all the wonderful new material, when I came across Dick Oslund on page 422. I sent him a pm and he confirmed it was him. I was totally blown away to find out the guy I had been corresponding with for two years was in The Bible of coins. He's given me some right on the money advice many times. I knew he was a great magician, but had no idea how great. I've often thought how it would be to talk to Bobo or some of the guys in his book. It turns out I have been all along.

Interesting Fact. Dick Oslund is not the only "hidden gem" among our numbers here. (although he is one of the better ones in my humble opinion). Several great historians and performers lay dormant behind secret Café names freely giving out golden nuggets all the time without us knowing who they really are on their side of the screen. Several others share openly and are totally "out there" with who they are IRL. (I like that part too). Smile

Gallagher, I love your written expression! You have an original and refreshing style! I really enjoy your posts and you are a big reason I visit the sidewalk shuffle forum. You always have some interesting observation, insight or thought to share with a good dose of humor. And here you are asking about another magician that I continually learn a lot from and has been very generous with his knowledge to me personally🙂

Good morning.
,....unless ofcourse you're reading somewhere in Australia(!),
in which case, we'll simply say:
"Shouldn't you be sleeping!"

I am sorry for the confusion!
Recently,
I've been restricted to my 'wonderings',
often before I'm fully awake.(😴💤)
In other words:
As of late,....it's been too early.

I'm having to get up, get out, and 'play' a bit earlier,
then my mind minds. 😕
Sorry.

My 'point',..thought:
Dick Oslund.
'Modern Coin Magic' co-author,..
Wouldn't it be cool if we captured him performing 'his own trick'(!),
on video!...?!

Wouldn't it be cool,
to ask him questions,....specifically,
about 'the book'?
,...his wanderings thru the years?
(visiting t. nelson's downs relatives..
playing with mr. down's gaffs....
sharing a weekends with doug henning....
.....)

hmm,
after sleeping on 'it',
i STILL think it sounds like a good idea!

Walking farther,
in Poof-daddy's direction;
we have sound 'Legends' amongst us(!).
Living and ACTIVE(!...!).

Wouldn't it be cool to film Jonathan Townsend
performing 3 Fly(!), for us!..?!
,,...he invented it.
Informal,....just for fun.

Or Al Schneider(?),..
simply performing,...performing 'the Matrix',...
for us.

Lawrence O's favourite book?

ect. ect. ect....

They wouldn't have to explain, defend, agrue,..
we could just,..
let them be comforatable,
..and let them share their 'legendery'.

No stress.
No 'big secrets'.
Simply an enjoyment,..
pleasure to watch.
Something to watch,..'later'.

Thinking,..reading,..what for folks walk thru this Café,
i often pinch myself and think:
"Breath deep!
Shut up and breath deep.
Take in some of that air! Maybe it 'll help!"

Again, sorry for the 'confusion'(!).
I've to run,..again.
Thanks for thinking about it.

Dynamike(!), great seeing YOU back(!).
(From 'the front' you're pretty ugly! 😄
{,...i can only say that to you. 😋
Thanks.}

Maybe YOU could grab your camera and try catching up with Dick Oslund(?)...

Kanawati,....shouldn't you be sleeping!

Have a nice day folks.

I'd love to see Oslund perform.

He is in his nineties. But he does have a DVD out where he used to perform in schools. The last routine he performs is The Misers’ Dream.

I am doing fine. Ron Bauer is fine also. Ron, other magicians and I meet up once or twice a month for a magic meeting.

Do you ever make it into Wunderground? It’s been a couple years since I have been there?

I like your funny lines. That is why you are still alwhite with me. I have to find that picture of you and I together in Detroit years ago.

Dick lives in the upper peninsula of Michigan. I live way south in the lower peninsula. We are far away. He does not favor me using backdrops, larger props or feather flowers outside.

And so are you fonda, "totally cool." Smile

Y'know what I really like about this place, it's that there are so many differing levels of magic, from beginners to pros, hobbyists to experts and all in-between, just a nice mixture of folks. And everyone can learn something from everybody, and just have a good time in the art. Good place! Smile
