This is a very special 2018 Madison Edition of The Expert at the Card Table by S.W. Erdnase...
Artist Neema Atri has taken every one of M.D. Smith's original drawings of Erdnase's hands and modified them by giving Erdnase the tattooed hands of Daniel Madison! It is the perfect addition to any Madison or Erdnase collection. From Madison: "This book does not belong to me. I did not write it, nor did I sketch each image. S. W. Erdnase was the author, M. D. Smith drew each image of the hands of Erdnase and the book originally published in 1902. Ricky Smith suggested that I apply my hand tattoos to each drawing in the book. I did not do that. I asked my friend Neema to do that for me. The cover was designed, and the book was sent to print. I am often seen as an 'Erdnase Capitalist.' But as with everything I do, it is never about the money. This time, it's literally out of my hands, and I receive no profit other than the satisfaction of being part of another opportunity to bring attention to this book. If this is a new edition to your building Erdnase collection, thank you. I continue in hope to be understood, not as one who continues to disgrace the legacy of Erdnase, but as one who strives to uphold his work, as a student, as a fan and as an ambassador of this treatise on the science and art of manipulating cards. Freshly tattooed to reflect my image, I proudly present to you S. W. Erdnase, as artistically modified by Neema Atri, to create an idea by Ricky Smith. I am Daniel Madison." This is the 2018 Madison Edition of The Expert at the Card Table. More info: https://www.murphysmagic.com/product.aspx?id=63274 Best regards, Titanas

I just laughed out loud in an airport baggage claim—and I’m not attempting to be rude or impolite—but I genuinely feel it’s worth asking if this is sarcasm/caricature/parody? Is this real?
Literally the same book, no modification, just the drawing of Daniel Madison’s hand tattoos on the original drawings? And my next question is what is this marketing blurb about? I’m very confused.

It should be treated as a joke... but, more fool those who want to buy it - and more fool those who want to buy something that looks like it was designed during the grunge period...still, a fool and his money and all that...

Not going to diss or be rude. But, people will buy it, hence it was produced and is being sold.

Men with beards such as his should be reserved for intrepid explorers, those that have scaled the heights of Everest, or crawled, unsupported to the S Pole.

Looks pretty cool. I’ve never been into Erdnase myself but am tempted to get this.

Those of us who love the art will wait for the 2.0 version with the press-on tattoos, so our hands can match Madison’s

This is stupid. It doesn't even work on a practical level- there's a reason the original hand drawings are simple: the visual communication is quick and efficient. The tatted up drawings are too busy.

I’m a little late to the conversation, but in case any of you see this, I just want to say that this is not a project intended to upset any magicians, nor fans of Erdnase. Whether you agree with the sentiment or not, an association between the works of SW Erdnase and Daniel Madison has developed over the years, and Daniel Madison has been an ongoing advocate of Erdnase’s brilliance, bringing his work to the attention of countless young magicians who would otherwise dismiss it as an old and useless book. The edition, in which I drew Madison’s tattoos, has made many of these young magicians very happy, so I hope that you can understand this was painstakingly illustrated and printed with those fans in mind, and I hope that you no longer see it as an insult to your own personal relationships to the work of Erdnase. With love, Neema

I think that this is a laughable thing some people might like it but if you do great if you don't you shouldn't bash the product.

***... just watched the Murphy's video and it almost convinced me I needed this. Seriously, I think it puts style ahead of substance as the illustrations, while bad-ass, are cluttered by the tattoos. But, I'm a guy who tries to only use blue bikes so I don't have to worry about gaffe's matching. Madison's sold dozens of different decks of cards with his name on them... why shouldn't he pay homage to this seminal book.
