Surrounded, all in front, or what?

Two that I like are Richard Osterlind's version and Gene Anderson's version.
Author of Illusions of Influence, a treatise on Equivoque.

I'm on stage.. They are seated in a crowd.. I can get one of them up if needed...I don't really want to go into the audience if possible...

I suggest you read this topic I created back in 2010, read the whole thing, as some have added newer creations to it.

To answer your question, there is no best, they are all good. It more depends on how much time you want to put into the preparation for each show. That is a personal choice you have to make for yourself.

We don't know your dress style, or stage set up, table, etc. There is no way anyone can suggest something for you, by not knowing anything about you or your style.

Do like I did, buy all of them, go through each one and decide for yourself. Maybe even try out some to see which one goes over best with your audiences.

Slim,

Are you looking for a Newspaper TEST? Because what you wrote is Newspaper TEAR.

Jim Steinmeyers is the best if you want virtually no set up. (In Conjuring Anthology).

My personal favorite is Ron Wilson's. (Uncanny Scot)

If you want to do the Anderson "flash" restore with less prep make sure to check out Robert Baxt's clever solution (the better newspaper tear).

I guess I am a bit confusing!!!! I'm interested in tearing a newspaper into pieces with the prediction matching the chosen piece... I was interested in getting the Knight version of the Koran tear. It sounds like it's a good starting point but is there something that may be a bit better even though it takes more work.
Maybe something like this?? I remembered this but I thought it was a newspaper... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ySvVdXezHMQ

Slim King, this is what is called a mentalist effect, better known as a "Book Test". This looks familiar, all this guy has done is, instead of using books, is used a script. Of course he does not want anyone to perform his effect. It may be a version that is sold on the magic market, but exactly which one is the thing to know.

The presentation looks a little bit like Shawn Farquhar's book test he did on "Fool Us". Not exactly, put only a little like it.

Martin Lewis came out recently with newspaper mental effect that does use some tearing.

Check out Mind, Myth and Magic by TA Waters for a bunch. The Berglas Newspaper Test is classic. But if you do it exactly as he does it, there is a decent amount of prep involved. Chris Rawlins and Nathan Kranzo have versions that seem to me the least fuss to setup. I haven't had a chance to check it out but I believe Fogel has a version as well.

I spent a good amount of time testing and thinking about the various methods. Each has their strengths and weaknesses. But definitely check it some youtube vids on Berglas performing his. Derren Brown does his take on it as well. I believe it is the final trick of Something Wicked This Way comes but I could be mistaken.

Hope this helps

Are you simply the greatest living all-around magician? Oddly, though a magic hobbyist, I didn't discover you until earlier this week. In that short time I've come to the above conclusion. Proof that the greatest magic is when it's used seamlessly along with personality.

Hi everybody,
I created a presentation of the newspaper torn and restored using the Axel Hecklau method, but it has all the avantages, as it's like a signed newspaper, the spectator is holding it, tear it, and leaving with the newspaper as a souvenir, and it got some mentalism in it as well. It's a 6 to 8 minute presentation...I did create this for a full 90 minutes show based on Alfred Hitchcock movies, speaking of "Shadow of a doubt" when Joseph Cotten is tearing off a newspaper to hide a clue.
Unfortunately I don't have that show in English, so you can see it here as a stand alone piece I did for a family performance instead of a stage performance. Not my best but the only one I have on video in English ...Excuse my French !

I'd love to see the routine but the video/link is private and so unavailable to view.

If you look and see and hear the audience reaction that Pop gets from doing the Gene Anderson newspaper tear, I think you might just realize that "You can't do better than that."

In my opinion, the Gene Anderson version of the newspaper tear is the best there is.
