The December issue of Genii is live online and on its way to your mailbox. Subscribe today at and join the most famous magicians in the world when they read Genii every month.

Many of us can say that magic made our life, but very few can say that magic saved our life. Laura London can. Born into money and comfortable surroundings, hanging out with famous folks, her family’s life took a dire downward tumble … but magic brought her back. Now she works posh joints in London and does lots of private shows and television appearances. She’s got charming presentation, a smoky voice, and good technique. You may have seen her on Penn & Teller: Fool Us. She’s an experienced and extremely skilled magician—and that’s why she’s on our cover this month, in a piece written by David Britland.

Why have I written a 600-page, 10 pound, full color book on Theodore DeLand? Simply because he is one of the most important men in the history of card magic, right up there with Hofzinser and Vernon. Through his use of ingenious printed gimmicked cards (many of his own invention), and by ingeniously combining multiple printed gimmicks in one card, he did something that no one had done before: freed amateur magicians from the need to learn any sleight of hand. This month I’m giving you a sneak peek into DeLand’s life with an article that also includes a free gimmicked card for “The Eureka Card Trick.”

“Grandpa Magic” is not the activity of an elderly entertainer, but rather the title of Allan Kronzek’s latest book. Produced by Workman Publishing, Grandpa Magic is a book of magic for the public that is directed toward grandparents who want their grandkids to think they’ve still got some tricks up their sleeve. The magic is good, well explained, and simple to do. There are over 100 items and we’re pleased to bring you two involving a worm and a chicken. It’s only $11.56 at amazon (no idea how their weird pricing algorithms come up with 56 cents).

Our columnists this month are Jim Steinmeyer, John Gaughan, Jonathan Neal, David Britland, Jeff Prace, Jonathan Pendragon, Roberto Mansilla, Jon Racherbaumer, and David Kaye. Our regular features are “Magicana” and “The Eye.” Reviews this month come from Ryan Matney, Brad Henderson, and Tom Frame.

Not that I want to be the first to start making a big deal about this, but this has got to be one of Genii's best covers in YEARS. Without a doubt.
