Does anyone make (or has anyone made) 8.5" to 9" linking rings?

YUP! Jay Marshall did. He used them all his life, as a professional magician.

Thank you, Dick. Is there any way to obtain rings of that size today?

IIRC, Jay was living in NYC in those days. He had access to the material, and, the appropriate tools.
He wanted to do the old over the head gag, with ring "stuck" on his nose. He had made the rings to fit HIMSELF! He made SIX rings, then realized "!!!" that he was only using FIVE in the final version of the routine!!! He "red lighted" the SIXTH ring!!! Remember! Jay's routine was a "display" routine. (No audience participation)

I have to assume you are speaking of a set of 8 Linking Rings as used in The Linking Rings performance.
To my knowledge there has not been any 8.5" or 9" rings manufactured for sale to the magic community. The standards are 5", 6", 8", 10", then there are more recently 12", 15", 21", 22" by different sources. All these are only sold in sets of 8, 4, 3, etc., in other words you cannot buy just one or two. If you are looking for just a metal ring, then Amazon may have some as well as Wal-Mart in the craft section, as well as hobby craft stores and websites. These are wire metal rings mostly used to make hanging displays for flowers and such. I don't know any source for specialty person or company that will make just one ring or a set of Linking Rings for one person. You can certainly inquire at any good local machine shop. Anyway, it depends on how much you are willing to pay for specialty work. |

Thank you, gentlemen.
I do have an 8.5" single ring and key that I acquired at a magic auction. Perhaps they were used for a levitation? I really liked the size and was hoping to find a set of 3 or more. |

You can do a 2 ring routine like Jonathon Neal Brown. All I can suggest is to search the Internet. How thick is the ring material. If is close to thin wire, then it was maybe from a magic set, it is thicker, then it may have been a complete set. Can't suggest anything else as I can't see your rings or measure them myself.

Diffatta magic makes them, but they are a distributor and they just will not sell you a single set. They suggest that you contact a magic shop that orders from them and get them to include a set in their next order. |

Wolfgag Mullet owner of www.tricksupply.com will order them for you. I had him order a prop he did not carry in stock and received it in a timely manner. It was for a Difatta item. Just contact him and ask for his help.

At one time, there was a set sold (I believe 3 rings), that had one over-sized ring. Perhaps Rings N Things??
The owner of Trick Supply is Wolfgang Wollet.

Right Michael, my short term memory is very bad these days. Wollet, Wollet, Wollet. Hopefully that will help.

Do you Happen to know who made the magic masters set? I have an old 8” set from them from the early 90’s and they are still a really great set.

I picked up an amazing 8” Rings n Things set for $35.00! The sound is amazing. The add copy reads, “clear as a bell” and they are!

Public service announcement: Avoid the UF Grant Rings as they are not stainless even though they are advertised as such. Please also note; that there are so thin they should be called the Chinese Linking Wires!

I believe they are stainless steel ones; the brochure doesn't include any specific details. They do list the Copenetro trick for $85 - a steal by today's standards. |

It depended on the product. Their change bags, aqua vase, and silkola’s came from Ickle pickle, and their coloring books and some cards came from Haines.
The spring animals they made themeselves I think. I’m sure things changed over the years too. |

If you are certain thomasR, then the best Linking Rings at the time was Rings and Things, the original 1st business, would be the source. In the time period I am referring to, Ickle Pickle was not not in business yet, as they copied Rings and Things products. In the time period of Ickle Pickle, it was Suds, that was making rings, but some had a flaw with a cloudy make on some of the rings. Maybe where they were hung on the hook for the chrome process.
I was at a convention talking to the owner, and he said he would love to have to have help making Zombies and Linking Rings, he is tried of making them. Yes, he actually said that. |
