I'm sensing that some dealers are breaking a bit of a sweat over this product, especially with recent reports of audible noise volume. I've seen the watch. Yikes, it's fat, very fat. Are there others this fat on the market? Yes there are, but none have the Mickey Mouse back mounting that this one has. Does not look "real" to me, not that matters a great deal. It's just annoying.

Saw this at Magicbox yesterday.
Wow, the effect is great but the method is FANTASTIC. Mike Donoghue |

There is the “but” though which Mike quite rightly mentions. The method is better than the effect it seems from everyone I have heard from. Olly

It just amazes me that people keep ranting about how illogical this is. As others have said, a LOT of magic effects don't make sense until you create an interesting routine to go along with them. It's as though you see the effect and your imagination shuts off at that point. Throw some creativity into it! Make a story out of it! Who cares if the object is real or not? Michael Ammar sells Fab Fruit for the cups and balls - that's not real and it gets great reactions. Tommy Wonder's routine is a thing of beauty. Do we dare not bash that because it was the work of a brilliant magician? Was your first thought after seeing that, "but the alarm clock isn't real/this doesn't make sense"? If so, you're overthinking it.
Magic is a lot of things. "Logical" is often not one of them until you put the work in, and even then it can be a bit of a stretch. At the end of the day, the audience is going to be amazed and that's matters. I'm at the Magic Castle at least once a week and I see things that make NO sense whatsoever, and audiences eat it all up. Don't watch a video and immediately decide it makes no sense. Actually sit and think about it. Let the creative juices flow and you'll be amazed at what the possibilities are.

Andrew logical or illogical everyone has a right to have their own opinion about something without fear or reprimand.

Also, if you've ever wondered why a large percentage of the public see magic as lame and meaningless, you have your answer perfectly encapsulated in that response. If you try and do something meaningful you'e "overthinking" it. |

I found very interesting the Jerx comments on the thread. Especially about the spelling mistakes.

I've been out doing this over the weekend and I've had to scrap my bonus video because I'm filming another.
I've found an awesome way to load and operate everything under my complete control. The way it is supplied everything works but all at the same sort of time. I can now load and then have mechanism work when want it to giving me far more control over what is going on, its just amazing not that it wasn't good before. The bonus video should be live late tonight GMT as I'm out all day today doing it again!!

This leads to the inevitable "I bet that's some sort of trick watch" thought which will pop into your spectator's heads because clearly the watch is very odd looking since it's more of a container shaped like a watch rather than a watch that just so happened to have a ring/coin/piece of paper appear inside of it. That's the problem with the effect. With your examples, they are nonsensical examples. The fake fruit loads the mystery is how did it end up in the cup and the cup is clearly a normal and solid cup whilst the fruit being real or not is inconsequential because the effect is the appearance of an object much larger than the container you are dumping it out of. That's the effect. With the alarm clock nest of boxes, people recognize alarm clocks that look like that and are of that size. On top of that, the spectator handles the clock virtually throughout the entire time the clock is in play. The clock being that large and having a cavity inside of it is no suspicious because there's PLENTY of large analogue clocks for sale. (one needs to look no further than here: https://www.amazon.com/Alarm-Clocks-Vint......03954011 ). So the clock itself is above board. The watch here however, it's not normal. There's no comparable watch on the market that is like that watch. Period. This leads to easy backtracking by the audience/spectator. That's the problem. The problem isn't the plot of the effect, the problem is with the prop itself. It's literally like a Tenyo trick. Practically all Tenyo tricks are unsuitable for real performances because they look like they exist and were made specifically for the purpose of the trick they are used for. Look at the Crystal Cleaver. GREAT trick. GREAT illusion. Is anybody going to be really fooled though? Not really due to the nature of the prop. |

Looks like a real McLaren watch to me. Spirts chrono etc. I’m not sure what people expect watches to look like.
There is space in the back of watches just Google removing the back. Not that any of this really matters, too much overthinking going on, which people are free to do if they wish.

@Kissdadookie, you couldn’t have summed it up better.
Each to their own but my belief is those who already have this, and those who want this seem to be trying to justify it more to themselves than anyone else. I don’t think I have ever seen such over justification on a prop in my entire life, and when you read the posts you can almost feel they haven’t truly convinced themselves either. A very Merry Christmas to all Olly |

Mark you are so right, it’s just opinions and it’s great that we are still ( just about ) in modern society allowed to express them.
Long may that continue I say Olly |

It would appear that there's way too much overthinking for people to justify using this thing when the obvious is that the watch looks incredibly fugazi and thus suspicious which makes it a fail at a very basic tenant of magic... for the effect to be deceptive enough not to be easily backtracked. The fact that you have a fugazi watch makes this easy to backtrack. Fail. It's a very cool collectors item for magic collectors though. So I'm not going to be too hard on those whom love the method and thus picked this up. As a magic trick for a lay audience though, not great and there's much better options on the market that are backtrack-proof so this is not a good one for coin/ring to impossible location. Including the Tommy Wonder alarm clock. |

I have been reading this thread since the very beginning. I think it boils down to this, it’s all about the ability of the magician. David Penn will make it work because he is a good magician. He will work the effect, improve and change it and he will get amazing reactions from it.
Likewise if David Copperfield performed it on one of his specials the same thing would happen. I don’t own it but I can see the potential. As long as it works long term I can see this in the right hands being a reputation maker. In the wrong hands even a basic ring flight routine will flop. |
