I'm not really one for packet tricks with the exception of Color Monte the only packet trick I really do is Doctor Daleys last trick which uses just 4 cards from a regular deck.
Until recently that is, Quite a while back I got Paul Gordon's Killer OMG free with the Gordon Diary trick which I've only recently bothered looking at. Although its not a bad effect there was a couple of things that I didn't like about it, number 1 you don't show the cards at the start, 2 not all of the cards magically turn over. I then looked up Spin Doctor which was a step in the right direction as in you display the cards fairly at the beginning, yes there is a minor discrepancy as you talk about the ace of spades however with a wrist kill as you remove the ace and a tiny bit of a time delay that isn't a problem. Once again though not all of the cards turn over magically, enter Eye Exam where you have a clean display at the beginning combined with all of the cards turning over one at a time with a really nice presentational hook although the placement of the card in the pocket that returns back to the packet is a bit weak. Now whilst I know one isn't really better than the other which one do you find yourself actually performing the most in the real world ? |

I perform a mash of both of the effects, its one of my favourite packet tricks.
The set up: set up the trick as per Spin Doctor with the eye test card face down and the 4 other cards face up Perform bannons routine as normal however after you have shown all the 4 cards face up together, do a thru the fist flourish to show the eye exam card (At this point I say "If this is too hard to follow you should maybe go to specsavers"). Then hand the eye test card to the spectators asking when what it reads, then show the backs of the 4 in your hand. Hope this makes sense, trying not to give away the workings of both the effects! |
