I like the phrase, "Old wine, new bottle."
I was wondering what was different about this from any of the other Triple Splits out there, and still not sure really but it does have a nice price to it, but "quality" is important as STEPH mentions above. Oh, and welcome to the Café BMC, look forward to your review.

At that price, I'd expect something along the lines of the quality of Sucker Punch.
Certainly the Morgan's can't be real... and probably not metal. Fine at a distance but likely not suitable for close-up. |

I don’t understand the fake morgan thing. Wouldnt be so bad if they would use a unquie coin design. They never look better then “nice fakes” so whats the point

It all depends. I guess it you are going to do a side by side comparison- feel, weight, properties then I’d agree. However I have quite a few of these coins that are so nice
I’m also surprised by how many folks never saw or at least handled a standard US half dollar.- let alone US silver dollars, So for them and me, using a good replica is the way to go. Cost effective, accomplishes same outcome and many wouldn’t know a coin from the 1800”’s anyway. And again, the ones I own look good. Don’t get me wrong though, I also own quality coins and sets. Funny as I’m more comfortable now with these type coins as if they drop or I misplace I don’t sweat it. |

Joe Mogar’s replica shell sets are a great example! You couldn’t tell from a real Morgan unless you do the “ping” test to show it’s kot Silver.
So we will see what these are like! Steph

I've always been an advocate for the replica Morgans, as they gave people a viable alternative that was much more affordable to the average pocketbook. After all, it's about doing the magic, and really everyone doesn't have the money for these real Morgan sets, but that shouldn't mean they can't still do the magic with them. Because of replicas, they can much more easily.
Long ago, I mentioned that all these tricky sets should be made available in replica Morgans as well, mostly so people could better afford them. Eventually, after the crazy real Morgan market was exploited, the crafters began to seize upon the replica market, making available many of the tricky sets with a reduced replica price tag...and lo & behold, they sold them like hot cakes. Why, simply because people could more readily afford them, didn't have to stress out if they lost or damaged one of these coins because they could more easily replace them, etc. Plus, the good replicas look plenty good enough, they can even be somewhat aged and softened. But all replicas are not the same, and there are some poor quality ones out there for sure. I know the good crafters don't much use them, but beyond that they are as they always were, a darn good alternative. Again, not sure about this Vegas Dream set quite yet, but I'm sure we'll know soon better what they look and feel like, even how they play. And even then, people will at least have a more knowledge for a more informed choice...And that's always a good thing. So, yeah, the good stuff is the best stuff, but the other stuff ain't bad. Or, does good champagne taste better out of a glass or a paper cup, or something like that. -Happy Holidays to all

Looks neat. Seems like it would be a nice foray into a set like that at an entry level price, for those like me who don't have a similar set. If the quality is top notch, even better.

Murphy's posted a very close up performance on Instagram yesterday and they really look cheap and fake. The routine is great though.

I ordered one set from Murphy’s for my store, just to see for myself. And now I’m kicking myself for not ordering a dozen! These are better then I expected! To be honest, the Morgan’s look and feel like the real thing to me. I am no coin expert, but I was very impressed with this set. Alas they are all sold out now, but if/when they become available again I will be ordering several for my shop.

We were all wrong about the quality of these coins. Just received mine yesterday and they are outstanding. I agree
totally with Todd's comments above. I quickly ordered a second set. Can't believe they are only $40, would have been very happy even at a $100 price. I will say the online instructions were not all that user friendly. Basically a slient video of a performance and explanation of the effect. Have a Merry Christmas and a great day. Also don't forget the free gift from Penguin Magic: http://penguinmagic.com/p/11246 You have to create an account and password which most of you already have. I've handled a Johnny Wong set and the weak spot is the stickers. Unless they get moistened or treated, they WILL stick together from time to time. I've got JJ's set (Eisenhower/Poker) and they are fabulous.
As this Vegas Dream set gains in popularity, it will be interesting to see if there are reports of sticking. $40 is definitely a bargain (if you are okay with replica coins) but not if they stick. Mark

Just tried to order this....got this email instead:
‘Hello Matthew, Unfortunately, I just found out that there were some concerns about the originality of Vegas Dream, so that one was unfortunately taken off the market for now before any could be sent out. I'm not sure if/when it will be back in stock, but I will go ahead and get you a credit or a refund for that one, whichever you'd prefer.’ Anyone know more of what this is all about? |

Received my set today. Overall value for the money spent. An additional 2 matching nongaffed coins add to this set as well as some additional stickers. Very happy with this set as a main set or a back up - quality and priced so right. The routine is nice as well. What I don't understand Is why it’s been removed from market now. Recently others have released very very similar sets and routines and there apparently was no issue. Now a quality low priced set comes out that all can afford and it’s pulled? A little strange no?

When I purchased my Eisenhower/Poker set from John Jurney he did not supply any extra normal coins. No need to, I can get real normal coins at any coin shop. The Vegas Dream folks are supplying two "normal" Morgan dollar coins that are replicas. I think the treasury department kinda looks the other way for replica GAFFED coins because nobody is going to make a bunch of gaffed coins and go out and spend them (put them into circulation). But when you make replica coins that are not gaffed coins, replicas that might be able to pass for the real deal, well...
That said, according to Matthew above, retailers are claiming there is concerns about originality. Which suggests, perhaps, Johnny Wong or someone else is objecting to the Vegas Dream. ????? Mark

I was thinking about ordering a set and then saw the problems above. I'm kind of curious what "concerns about originality" means. To me, I'm not sure where the line of "inspired by" meets plagiarism. We don't see Kueppers and Johnson at each other's throats for making ['s. Maybe its just in the name?

I ordered an received my set and have to say wow not bad at all for the price. I have JJs coin set and love it and use it at every gig. I do Johns routine, what peeked my interest was Beans routine, I liked it and thought what the hell Ill buy a set to learn his handling and see what the coins were like. The set I have of JJs are Morgan replicas and the set is a work of art. The Bean set are also in Morgan’s but roughly made in comparison. They are however totally useable. Glad I got set and now on to learning a new routine. If you have an interest in this type of coin set you can not go wrong with JJs. One of the Best Buy’s I made last year.
