I’m looking to add a little escape work to my sideshow act (the goal eventually is to become a one-man 10-in-1) and got various escape DVDs for Christmas.
One in particular calls for 2 pairs of handcuffs. One regular, one gimicked. The gimicked pair silly features a button which instantly releases them. I know there are several recourses in escaping ungimmicked thumbcufs, and they all have a place, but for this routine I really do require the gimicked set. Here’s the rub though; I can’t find them ANYWHERE. Anyone have any ideas on where I can get a pair?

Sorry. I’ve typed handcuffs in one of the instances up there. Every occurence should be THUMBcuffs.

Prop dog might have some, as I am sure that they were working on the David Deval greased lightening handcuffs, which are essentially what you are talking about.
However another option may be to buy a set of the cheap handcuffs (regular) that match the ones you find in sex shops, which tend to have a quick release button. Bondage sites are a great resource for escapists. Mike |

Sorry I read this as handcuffs not thumb cuffs, probably because you mentioned handcuffs in your post, so slightly confused.......I still stand by what I say about bondage sites.

Yes. I either made a typo, or got auto(in)corrected. Sorry for the confusion.
In the DVD Harlan claims they are available from any magic shop... obviously this is g the case. I’ll give bondage shops a go. Thanks.

Thumb cuffs can be gimmicked in different ways. Do you need them to be completely silent as you open them?

Ailey would be better, but not essential. They would only have to open one or two ‘clicks’.
The ones on the DVD had a button on the bottom (where the 2nd lock usually is) which allows them to move when pressed.

The TCs with the "release button" are of Japanese/Taiwan make....and show up from time to time. I own a pair.
They are also referenced in Novak. |

Sorry. Didn’t see the PM.
Very good info, but not something I can use for this. Thanks though.

It’s not a case of prefer... the meathod you PMed me is a far better stand alone meathod. It’s a case of requirements for a particular routine. There’s some business before the escape proper which eliminates ungimmicked, and some business and some business after it which eliminates the method you PMed me.
Thank you for your help.

Ah, right, I see.
The description of the TC's in the link above is brief, but hopefully they will be what you're looking for. Good luck with the routine |

I never thought of thumb cuffs as needing to be gimmicked personally.
Same approach as for the 100' rope escape no...?
