Hi,
I am looking for some royalty free music to go in a stage/manipulation act (with card manipulations, billiard balls, dancing cane, colour changing cane, and the ribbon and candle). I have seen many music for magic cd's, but lots of them do not have samples of the music, or they aren't suitable. Can anyone advise me or point me towards music that would be suitable for my act (I'm looking for music a bit like McBrides)?!
Are there any magic cd's out specially for stage/manipulation?
What royalty free music does everyone else use in their manipulation act?
Thanks.
Sam

Sam-

Go To Hocus Pocus Magic site.

Key in "Music" in the search engine.

Plenty of good royalty free CDs including Bill White Magic etc.--very good for manipulations.

I use a few of his themes myself--very good selection.

The Vienna Magic CD is available from Hank Lee Magic.

The thing about music is it is personal to each person. Your likes and dislikes. What one person considers manipulation music, another considers illusion music. You really have to listen to them all.

Richard Wayne made 4 CD's for magic; you might want to search for these. Some professional magicians use his material. They do their own editing. His music is cued for editing.

I believe Owens Magic has a CD also.

Sam I own 3 of Opus1's CD's and highly recommend their music. If you are looking for McBride-like music check out their Festivus Maximus CD (their latest) as it is along those lines. I use a computer program by Blaze Audio called Ripeditburn to string together the length I need or to piece different songs together.

I also have Opus1's Webwerks and Imagination. Webwerks, I don't think, will be along the lines of what you want and Imagination I would say is more grand scale illusion but then again that is just an opinion.

You can always contact Tommy at Opus1 and he can help answer your questions on music.

David Gustafson also put out a very nice CD for magicians and acts. I am not sure if it is still available, but I will try and find out. I think it is called "Defying the Laws of Physics." Great music. I hope this might help.

Thanks for the help. Have any of you had any experience with 'Sounds of the Sorcerer' by opus1productions, because I emailed them about manipulation music, and they recommended 'Festivus Maximus' and that? What is the music on that like?
Thanks.
Sam

P.S. I listened to some clips of 'Festivus Maximus', and it might just be me, but the music seemed to be a bit repetitive! The songs individually seemed to be different, but each one has a tune which seems to be repeated a lot!

Sam, I've never heard "Sounds." Remember too that when listening to the tracks on their site it is usually not the full track (unless that has changed). I think they have one full song from FM currently in their freebie section.

The songs are not looped over and over though it may be a little long between breaks and bridges. That is where Ripeditburn comes in; you can visually edit the song to whatever length you want. There is a one month free trial so buy the CD and try Ripeditburn out on it to get what you want to achieve.

All songs or music repeats. That is what music does. In the 1920s and 1930s music did not repeat much. For manipulation you want repetative music.

You must visiualize your routine. Produce a coin, vanish, repeat, discard. Produce another coin, etc.

Cards, produce - throw - produce - throw.

Billards, produce - vanish - produce - vanish. Multiply.

I hope you are getting the idea I am trying to get across.

Hello All

Most "PRO" performers have their music "professionaly written" for their act/shows.

I did and have never been happier, as it's all mine!!! Copywritten and protected.

Cheers

Has anyone had any experience with Richard Allen's 'Music Magic' at http://www.a440music.com/musicmagic/ ?
I am currently deciding between 'Sounds of the Sorcerer', 'Festivus Maximus', 'Illusionique' which are all by opus1productions, and the Richard Allen cd, 'Music Magic'.
Has anyone had any experience with any of them? Which ones seem more suitable for stage/manipulation?
Has anyone got any other royalty free music cd's specially for magician, apart from Bill White's, because he has not had many good reviews!
Thanks.

Hello Sam,

This might come in very late, but the best cd for magic that I've ever purchased was the one with Richard Allen's "Music Magic" cd.

I have a handful collection of music for magicians but this one is the best.

Thanks,
Since I posted this topic, I have bought all the opus1 cd's, and Richard Allen's 'Music Magic'!
I would recommend them all, especially 'Illusionique' and 'Sounds of the Sorcerer' by opus1.
Thanks for everyone's input. It has been really useful.

Hi Sam,

That's great! Any comments on the newest Opus1 cd called "Festivus Maximus"? I'm planning to buy it as well.

Also,. Duane Laflin also has a music cd for magicians, but I haven't bought it yet.

Moin Leute,
I think this is good advice:

You really don't need special music, as every music will work for magic: classic, rock'n roll, pop, rock, techno and even hip-hop (just remember Christopher Broughton; he had an award-winning act with hip-hop music).

If you have a song you like and which fits your performance style, why look any further? It's right in front of your eyes, so at least give it a try .

Sam,
if you asked for the music Jeff McBride uses on his video "Magic On Stage," the answer would be Zingaia. The music is from their album "Beneath The Veil," really great exotic music.
You can also check their second album "Dancers Of Twilight," again... great.
And if you want something to get your audience to dream, I highly recommend Gary Stadler's music.

All of the above can be found at http://www.yourmagic.com

So, keep your eyes/ears wide open and look/hear for the music you like.

Cheers,
Philipp
