Hey all,
I thought it would be fun to share with each other what card move(s) we are each currently practicing. To make it more fun, let's explain why we are practicing it, what effect we want to use it with and where we are learning it from. I am practicing the Hofzinser Cull. I am reading through John Carey's Minimalistica, and he uses it a ton. I want to be able to perform it well for John's One, Two, Three! trick which is based off of Larry Jennings' Triple Discovery, published in the Classic Magic of Larry Jennings. Carey's Minimalistica teaches the Hofzinser Spread Cull, and I am also watching the 52Kards video found here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sk-C_m-8r3k. What are you practicing? |

Classic Pass. The Hermann Pass has served me well for many years. On a whim, I recently purchased Kamm's pro-torial on it and decided I'd like to properly learn it. I know, I know. Shame on me for not choosing the effect before learning the tool.
I'm also fine-tuning my full-deck false overhand shuffle that I use quite often (before performing many effects). I'm very pleased with my proficiency of Bob King's false overhand shuffle taught in Ortiz's Annotated Erdnase, but the one I learned in Apocalypse many years ago (sorry, the name escapes me) needs a little work. These days I am honing a few moves:
- Hammond Count - Pinky Count - Bottom Deal - Second Deal I'm also learning some novice riffle stacking technique. It's all in service of demonstrating three Darwin Ortiz compositions from Scams and Fantasies. Here is a 29-minute live performance of mine: https://youtu.be/lq2Rj1uf05M I used to be quite sensitive to criticism; I am much less so now; so, please do criticize my technique, presentation, and posts. It helps me to grow, and I promise to take responsibility and not to be defensive. |

Because I'm in the process of learning the Tamariz mnemonica stack, I also practice the faro shuffle, because a lot of the tricks using the stack involves the faro shuffle, and it opens up a lot of interesting possibilities.

Eagerly,
I just can't get down a perfect faro shuffle. I can do the shuffle, but it is never perfect. |

So I assume you all already can do my HaLo Cut, The Lorayne Force, Angle Spread, Reverse Faro, Spread Control, Sweet 4-Card Change, To Catch An Ace #5, Illogical Double Lift, Universal Reversal, Bottom Stet Overhand Control, and so on. If not - you really gotta' start learning the good (USEFUL) stuff, guys!!!

Harry,
Well, I don't know all of those moves, but I do use your HaLo Cut. If I am going to show some magic tricks, I start out with HaLo Aces followed by Take me to Your Leader. I love those two tricks. |

I am not currently practicing any move right now because I have decided that rather than do something productive like practice something, I would rather type some of my own meaningless thoughts on the Magic Café. maybe when I’m thru procrastinating, I will get back to my Hobbzinser Prayer Cull. (Yes it is spelled correctly. I am learning it from Stephen Hobbs’ “Technical Toolbox” and that is the name of “his take”.

After mastering the Down Under Deal in 2018, I'm devoting this year to the Jay Ose False Cut. Wish me luck.

Hmm quite a few, in rotation.
Diagonal Palm Shift, that never stops. Side Steal, as with the Dps. Turnover pass Classic pass Second deal Can never do enough Double Lifting, ever! Triple false cut, triple cut. Some other false cuts. Pressure fan...grrrrr don't ask. I'm starting to hate that pressure fan. Nearly forgot! Faro shuffle, almost perfect every time now yipee.
