Forgive me if this has been asked before.
Most of the close up magic I perform is in controlled situations where the guests are seated at tables with the sole purpose to be entertained with magic. Hence some of the material I use, whilst ideal for this situation, is not always ideal for the table hopping situation. Which THREE tricks do you think are the most appropriate for a table hopping situation?

I've been paring down a lot and I think I'm down to one pocket now.
-Card Warp (I have a prepared deck) -Positive/Negative -B'wave -A 3 coin trick done with 4 coins (I know this is four but I only do this when I'm seated, I just carry it just in case.) All stuff that is pretty instant reset, easy to work, so I can concentrate on interacting with people. Mark

Sponge balls. from there, it depends on what I'm trying to accomplish and what the venue is. In upscale, classy places, I will do Goldman's Mental Yarn and perhaps the Brainwave deck.
In more hoi polloi joints, it's CMH and Rindflisch's Band Through My Thumb bit or Cash Ladder. In bars, it's usually Chop Cup and a Salt Pour (TT method). Cards - Card to Forehead, Triumph and LePaul's Gymnastic Aces. In spooky places, it's a Glopry routine with mini-spirit slates, Baker's erectile Bill (Burger's method from Spirit Theater) and maybe the Haunted Deck with Tarot cadts. Also, in classier places, HPC and a Slydini-esque 1 coin routine play very well, too. Hope this helps! Lee Darrow, C.Ht.

1.Cardtoon by dan harlan (One of my absolute favorites and its so easy to perform)
2.Cups and Balls (its a real eye opener especially for other tables on looking then every one wants to see the trick with the 3 shiny cups) 3.Red Hot mama or a similar version(people just love the fact that there cards change colors) |

The 3 effects that I always have in my close up / hopping routines are...
1) Ray Mertz's "Fully Loaded" followed by a coin assembly 2) 3 card monte (various ones) 3) Triumph effects (Double Dazzling Triumph by Daryl is my favorite) |

For table hopping, anything where the magic takes place in the spectator's hands.
There is NOTHING stronger. |

I agree with Peter that things in the spectator's hand work wonders.
Spongeballs, for instance. I love when spectators tell each other that they could feel the ball arrive. "I felt it!" "Yeah, me too!" Cool!!

Yes, Peter is dead on. The most important tricks will be the ones that the spectators can have happen in their hands. Adding to that, use thier items (coins, bills, what ever they have), or do effects that you give them credit for having made the magic happen.

Thank so much to Eric Henning for mentioning my routine. Considering Eric's skill and reputation, the fact that the Loomis/Riser Chop Cup Routine is third on his list is a great compliment.

As pet says, in the hands is best. This is especially good for the first thing you do.
>Side Swiped >Bill Switch (I have the spectator do the last unfolding) >*Hopping Half (with Flash Burst) I do this with a sort of Coins Across spin. Bob |
