$30.00 https://www.murphysmagic.com/product.aspx?id=63206 The Hype: Hook your spectators from the very start with the most visual and surprising way to start a magic trick! Turn a pencil into a Sharpie, instantly! From the creators of Bare, Hands Down and SNAPPED, Maxwell's Signature Opener adds a new and surprising way to begin a magic trick. From those just beginning their journey into magic to the most experienced magicians, Maxwell's Signature Opener is a great addition to routines for magicians of all ages and experience levels. With one quick motion, you will be able to turn a pencil into a Sharpie and immediately hand it out for use in any signed card/bill trick. - Multiple methods taught, from simple switches to complex changes - Handmade gimmick with ink refill included - Ready to perform out of the box - No pulls, no magnets, no strings, no clothing restrictions - Add it to the routines you already perform! My Take: I am a big fan of the Other Brothers. They have come out with some very clever magic products and this one continues in that vein. And they seem to have such fun on their videos. These are definitely two guys you would want to hang out with. You are given a gimmicked Sharpie and an inkwell in a small plastic tube. You are told that the inkwell may dry out after a number of uses or even in shipping. (Mine came completely dry). However, you are shown how to replace the ink source. (Make sure you wear disposable gloves when doing it or your will have some very marked up hands.) You will have to replenish the ink in the marker after a few performances but it is an easy task to do. Nothing even needs to be taken apart. There has been quite a few tricks lately using special Sharpie pens. I am acquiring so many that I may have to turn nerd and get a pocket protector to carry my arsenal in. Some can be opened, some can't. This is one that you can not only open but you can use it to have a card signed or whatever you might need. In examining the pen, part of it is different from the standard Sharpie but it is highly unlikely that your audience will notice this. After the change, it can be handed to someone to sign a card. Still, I would not let it be closely examined because you will be busted. You are taught the actual mechanics of the pen in an opener featuring Maxwell. Then the Brothers come out and show you different ways to handle the pen. The instant change from a pencil to a Sharpie is true candy to the eyes. If you enjoy putting videos of yourself online, this is a killer. Easy to do. This would be ideal for even the younger teenage magi. Yes, this is one you can open today and do tonight, but get yourself comfortable with it first. One of the methods shown allows you to change the Sharpie to a pencil. This will not only take some practice but the angles are terrible. It is suggested that this be used only for a video. Other ideas use some older methods that help not only to effect the change but cover up the dirty work. The boys are also good about crediting both inspirations and sources. This is a fun, fun trick. I wouldn't actually call it a routine. It is something you can just throw into the flow and it will always get a big reaction. It looks like special effects and takes almost zero work. No sleights necessary. Even the more advanced methods can be done easily. The gimmick is well made and can just be carried in your pocket, ready for whenever you are. I would recommend this. You will have fun with it and you will fool your audience. You get a lot of bang for your buck! |
