Hi Jonathan1000,
If you buy the download you will see two complete and unedited performances. The spectator reactions you see are real, and in the real world I think you'll find that people don't find this trick boring despite the somewhat heavy amount of procedure. I had nothing to do with production of the promotional trailer, but I can understand why Penguin wouldn't want to show all of the process involved. That's not a good way to sell something these days... It's really true, though, that the trick fools magicians badly. If I was shameless I could list the names of some well-known and very knowledgeable magicians who were completely bowled over by this. But I won't do that. ;-) If you want a really fast-paced and/or visual effect, though, you should probably skip this one. This effect is meant to be performed for other magicians and for laypeople who really like card tricks. It messes with people's heads, but there is admittedly a certain amount of setup and process involved in getting to the punchline. Up to you to decide if that sounds worthwhile or not... Cheers, Matt Baker Quote:

Having practised the advanced method several times over the last couple of days my hit rate although fair is still not good enough for a level of confidence when I get to performing this in a crowded room with a lot of distractions. I would also be concerned that the rate of my dealing in the first phase is going to appear rather too slow. It could become quite tedious for the audience, certainly at the rate I need to go.
So I think the hybrid method without a crib is probably the way I shall go with this in order to a) speed up the first deal and b) give me more confidence in the end result. But I do like it though. I like the way there's a hook into the trick that some lay people will remember - but with a real twist at the end. |

Will someone that knows the advance method message me.
I believe there is a part left out of the download on giving other examples. I have been trying to figure it out but am getting stuck. Thanks Alex

This is my kind of effect.
Love it love it. Matt Baker is on a roll. Purchased this, and had some issues, and Matt got back to me right away and I was able to solve what I was doing wrong. There is an easy version and an advanced version. I am already doing the advanced version since I have worked with this type of principle before, so it was a piece of cake. This will be one of my go to effects from now on. This will fool magicians and laymen alike. Great effect, with a good ending. Alex Alejandro

Cho also deserves all the credit.
He helped me out as well, and it was all clear. The download is clear, but Matt says he will make more examples of different scenarios, and I never saw other examples. But if anyone needs any help, I have now got this down cold, and I am willing to help anyone that needs help, as well as you can contact Matt Baker, or even Cho, he also is very helpful. Thanks Great effect Alex

I think if you can learn the hard version and not everyone will be able too or not want to put the effort in , that’s fair enough , the easy version is still a killer effect.
I personally prefer the fact that the 2 cards can be removed with my back turned and hidden out of sight. That for me made me want to learn the harder version. Lovely effect by the way Carl |

Q: was this published previously in print? Book or lecture notes?

Hi paperinick,
This effect has not been previously published. However, if you're willing to wait another month or two, it is one of the routines explained in my forthcoming book "The Buena Vista Shuffle Club": https://www.mattbakermagic.com/bvsc Cheers, Matt Quote:

It will be available from various magic dealers, yes (and Vanishing Inc. will have an initial exclusive on it).
At the moment, it's only available through my website, and I'd certainly appreciate it if anyone who knows they want to order the book ordered it directly from me! Here's a short review of the book by Simon Aronson: https://youtu.be/H5xBEghcjFs Quote:

I often prefer to purchase through dealers, as I find them to be more reliable on average than buying direct (too many stories of buying direct and having problems). And also trying to keep some sort of budget while figuring out which of all these amazing new books to pick up, but I'll probably just pre-order from you sometime soon... |

Do as you like, of course! I promise, though, that I will offer extremely reliable service to anyone who buys direct from me.

Pre-ordered last night (with the video). I look forward to seeing it once it's out. As I said, the description hit all the right buttons for me.
