I just realised I posted elsewhere on the forum before introducing myself..... clearly living overseas has effected my manners!!
A pleasure to join after much 'lurking' over the past few months and I'm sure I will find a sense of community here. I used to be a hobbyist magician when I was very young after receiving a Marvins magic set which included a Svengali deck. My passions were stoked when I first saw David Blaines magic, realising how visceral and serious magic could be. I carried a copy of his book everywhere (I know DB gets a lot of schtick from magician purists.... but after studying his work I believe his simplistic effects are by choice and if you rummage through his collected works he has actually done some remarkable things). I eventually lost interests as I reached my late teens and rarely touched a deck. Then I started watching Derren Browns stuff and started to be drawn in again; but it wasn't until fairly recently when I saw Ricky Jay's Deceptive Practice film that I became again obsessed. I like his almost samauri student approach to cards. I found it incredibly inspiring. I am currently going back to basics and studying sleights from Erdnase, focusing primarily on false shuffles and second deals at the moment. I posted a question on the stacked decks section regarding the Erdnase pre-arranged deck system, if you're in the know about that's I would love your thoughts! Maybe see you over there! Once a again, great community and happy to join...... maybe I'll find an active one in Korea soon! |

Welcome elliot_6388,
And welcome back to Magic. I think every Magician should try a stack of some sort. If you check the stack your friends use before deciding you can possibly work together. -Mary Mowder |

Hi Elliot - welcome to the Café. I have used a Si Stebbins stacked deck with success, but I've found that spectators really don't care. I can use a double sided card to do a card to wallet, and they are blown away. I'm starting to take the easy route. But whatever works for you works! visit the Café often, I have learned a lot here.

Hi elliott, welcome to Magic Café forum. Learning to stack a Euchre deck is what brought me Erdanese. It does work rather well. I would also recommend Harry Loraine to you, he has some nice poker deals. He does post here and sells his lifes work.
