Want to meet some passionate fellow magicians nearby Washington DC. It's very hard to find someone who is really into magic. I know some fellow magicians in this area, but they only know some superficial tricks and don't want to learn more. I would like to meet someone who loves magic rather than just interests in magic in the DC area.

Welcome JasonDC,
What are your Magical interests and what is your proposed focus for the meet-up? It might be helpful to share your skill level. In the meantime, enjoy all that The Café has to offer. Best of luck in your quest. -Mary Mowder |

Hi Mary, I just want to meet some fellow magicians, share some magic and performance ideas. I started learning magic since 2014, so I'm still a beginner. Thanks for your suggestions.

Hi Jason!
You didn't mention your age. (It's generally more difficult, if you're a teen. (You are limited somewhat in places to go!) I grew up in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, in the '40s, No TV yet, no internet, a rural area. No magicians. The library had only a few books in 793.8! I almost wore them out! Schools would book a magician for assemblies. I made it a point to see every magician that I could. Several school professional magicians helped, when they could. I would recommend that you read the original TARBELL CORRESPONDENCE COURSE IN MAGIC. Published in 1927, it is now available on the internet for a very low price. You will learn basic PRINCIPLES. The patter and presentations are archaic. LEARN THE BASIC PRINCIPLES! The PROPS needed for the tricks in Tarbell are generally available in the average home. Ask In the 'new to magic' forum how to "subscribe" to the Tarbell Course, I don't know how! (I'm 87 and long retired from performing.) PM me. Perhaps if I knew more about you, I could be of more specific help.
