Anything of concern for us?

I’m curious to see how people react to this. In the specific examples used, it’s fraud and purposeful lying, to make a buck off people.

I doubt many here has to worry about it. Unless of course, you're one of those types of "grief psychics" that is the target of this sting. I have mixed feelings about "psychics" in general. Some days I see the good in some of it, other days I can't help but feel "what a load of phony BS this is."
If you look at it from the perspective that maybe a "psychic" is a paid listener - ok, fine. But make no mistake, there's many in that business who are not nice people and prey upon others and cause damage. If anything, I feel stings like this maybe help to keep the psychic business a little more honest. If one is simply giving oracle-based readings (combined with observation) and being mindful of their words and influence, I don't think they have much to worry about. Anyone using outside sources to convey the notion that they have otherworldly abilities (under the "psychic" umbrella) deserves to be exposed, because it's an outright scam. |

As long as it doesn’t turn into a transcript of the Masked Magician Tackles Mentalism

I don't think you have to worry about that too much. Or at least, it certainly won't be him doing it. Mentalism is sophisticated stuff. Heck, he can't even do a very basic card trick that he is selling to beginners on a breakfast tv show!
"You REALLY did something VERY special!" I die laughing every time I watch this. The second I heard him give her the wrong instructions...I couldn't wait to watch the horror unfold. It was even better than I expected. "And there's the FIFTH Ace..." Bwahahaha! |

Ouch! I made it about 20 seconds in.
I was cringing for him and stoped watching. Didn’t he pass recently?

I think I remember hearing that somewhere too. Never looked into it.

I think there is a line each person needs to decide on but that there is a line. For those of you so inclined, this is the sort of thing that x-phi (experimental philosophy) deals with and you can start looking into their methods. For fans of the Trolley Problem in philosophy, this would represent where you draw the line (spur, loop, 5 behind one, and what you do to the "Fat Man"). As such, I don't expect to reach a consensus or even argue for a point, I am, as I said, more interested to see what the reactions of people are. Best, Lem |

Meh... these skeptics... we don’t turn up at their events armed with the latest research in quantum physics and consciousness and try and break their world view. Why do they feel they need to do it to others?

As somebody who has (for years and years) shared that I have a personal love of physics, I say this with sadness: at least 99% of people who utter the word "quantum" can't continue the narrative for more than 30 seconds without making massive factual, conceptual, and common sense errors. And, let's imagine they could actually construct a factually correct narrative, I'd love to actually see the argument that busting someone for using Facebook, then pretending to speak to their dead child (and making money from it) is in anyway equivalent to not understanding quantum foam (for example). If you can do it, please do so, as I said, I'd love to see it. Or, you know, you could admit the flawed comparison and move on. I think the chances of either happening are much greater than 1,000:1. -Lem |

I’m not sure what a hoax peddler, an anti-vaxxer, or somebody without a Wikipedia entry at all would contribute. I’ll raise those odds to 100,000:1 if they are involved. Interesting that the people mentioned all have huge red flags and I, as a professional scientist, would object to any of them speaking at my children’s elementary school.
