David Roth is coming to our convention in April in the Northern VA/DC area. He has also agreed doing a workshop the day after the conference. I feel very lucky every time I have the opportunity to meet one of the legends. What would you ask to explain during the workshop? I think the lecture will be more limited, bigger audience, less time, but I hope we can get a lot on the workshop Smile

I would ask if arthritis impedes his ability to do coin sleights. I am finished with the Tenkai Palm and Back Palms. Numbness in both little fingers. I'm 63. He is older.

Last year we had Rubinstein (he is his mid 60s, right?), and I did not see any signs of Arthritis affecting his technique. Maybe there is a change on effects and techniques as Dougini mentions, avoiding the ones that don't feel right.

Marc, I am 63 this year. No arthritis in the hands, but over the years I have done less Knuckle busting stuff, instead using moves that make sense and allow me to concentrate on presentation. That is not to say a knuckle busting move is never appropriate, but I look more to find the most magical way, and sometimes less is more. Sorry, back to topic.

So I guess that's the path, you do moves that work for you and stay away from things that don't work for you. That way you can focus on the magical experience instead of the technique. It was very nice to have you last year. I loved the magnetic coins with quarters, not really magnetic, but they stick to each other. I thought that was very easy to do.

I'd ask him if he's ever going to release his Endless Chain routine.

Yep! Smile It's funny, the older you get the better you come to realize that, sorta like working smarter, not harder...or something like that. Smile

I would ask him if he performs regularly and where? Does he do shows for more than 20 people with coin magic? If so, how do theses shows play, and would he use projection for larger audiences?

Unfortunately David had to cancel due to health reasons. We wish him a quick recovery. But like always in the magic community someone has stepped forward. We will have Eric Jones filling those big shoes (and those are big shoes to fill Eric!) but we know Eric is more than capable! He has lectured in our ring in the past, and it was a big hit!

I would ask him how much close up he has done in the real world. I would be curious to know that. I do quickies with coins often as I get around.
Most people love it. It would just be interesting to know. And the best reactions he has gotten with these type of impromptu, quick performances.

David actually performs at a lot of private parties and corporate events. He does walkaround, and performs some very nice card magic as well. He has had the best teachers over the years...Darwin Ortiz, Ed Marlo, Larry Jennings to name a few. He also performs his formal coin show when hired to perform in a venue that allows it.
