Ok - so it's inane help time again, but here we go!
I'm relatively happy with my routines at the moment (not greatly, but relatively) and am looking for a good ending. I'm really tempted by a russian roulette with knives (I know, cliched and predictable - but I like it!) and already have a good script worked out. My question is: Death Trap is expensive, whereas Fruit Salad isn't, yet they both do the same thing. What makes one routine ten times as costly as another? What do people recommend? Any advise? Thanks, as always

Withnail, I have been closing with my own version of death trap for about a year & it gets great response it is only cliche to other mentalist. My reccomendation would be to do some research on the effect & you may come up with your own methos which may very well be better. As far as the differance Death Trap uses an electronic gaff where as fruit salad is no where near as sophisticated, but still works well.

It all depends on the presentation. And that depends on you.

This is also true Bill.
I think I have a great presentation for such a routine, so if I ever get round to doing it, I'll let you all know how it goes! Justforeffect, DEath trap is at hocuspocus

I spoke to Joel Bauer over the phone once and we had a discussion on the subject. He warned me that the electronic version isn't dummy proof and a lot of guys got sent to the hospital. Since the whole 9/11 events it's not very smart to travel with it, but I still would like to get it. Maybe a retractable knife that looks real...

For me, the imporantnt thing about the ending of my show is that I am alone on stage, with no one to dismiss after I finsh I can simply take my bow and run to the bar!lol Seriously, I think as far as artistically and theatrically you should be alone at the end of the show. I do one of two things, usually I will finish with Becker's Sneak Theif, well a variation very much based on it (an image duplication). Other times I finish on Kuff's Bottle Royale, three paper bags, one broken bottle, mixed up and slam ur hand down on two of the three. I used to finish on Two Martini Hunch from Mark Edward (Syzygy) very strong and that beauty earned me a few standing ovations. hope it helps

Fruit Salad is a nice twist but the props are of a low quality... I wonder if there any versions/ideas of this plot (knife under paperbags) in print?!

Kuff's version is in print, although it uses broken bottles as oppose to knives I love it! You can find it in "7"

If you travel allot ,as I do, kuffs version is the best. I take my show on the plane with me.
Well then...

For those that are interested in "Bottle Royale" by Kuff's should also check out Scott Alexander's "Shattered". It is on his DVD "Midnight Show".

For those interested I have my own version involving knifes and a paper bag which is based on Fruit Salad but so much more (in my opinion!)
It's 100% safe and can be played massivly...like all Death Traps the performance makes it what it is! |
