This could also be an opener you do this and then go into having the card signed because this is not done with a signed card.

I’ve got a horrible feeling that all you receive is 2 dupe cards and SF applied to the back of a random card. I hope I’m wrong, but seldom am.

For those that want a signed card, get Bob Kohler's Black Envelope DVD. He has an amazing subtlety in it that will allow you to have the card signed. Plus it's a great DVD and idea anyway.

Yes they are wrong. The method is deceptive and smart I think people will be really happy and come up with other ideas. Like someone else mentioned before, it does not have to be an ambitious card routine.
Anyway, if you want a card to disappear in their hands and you want a method that will not give them a clue as to how it is done then get this.

A good friend at the Winter Carnival of Magic going on now in TN, just reported to me about Dan Harlan...
"Just now finished seeing Dan Harlan. Man, he was something else! Not just coins or cards, but just a dang good magician. Very enjoyable! I hope he’s around tomorrow so I can at least speak to him for a second. I’m sure you would like his wonderful magic . It was great!" Hope Dan gets a chance to show his new Overly Ambitious to him.

My thought was more for The Biddle Trick, perhaps.

For the last 40 years, I have developed about 5 or 6 variations of doing my "backwards card trick". I'm going to pick this up and see if it helps me to add another variation. It's nice to have multiple variations for the same effect... especially when you have repeat audiences every month or so.
My abbreviated patter: "Instead of doing a regular card trick, let's try something different and do a card trick backwards. Let's do the first thing last and the last thing first. So the last thing a magician typically does is find your card." <I fan through the cards and remove one card and toss it to the table face down> "There... that was easy. Now the 2nd to the last thing a magician does is they "supposedly" lose the card in the deck by shuffling". <I shuffle the cards and after glancing at the face down card I'll give a knowing wink towards the audience> "And of course... now let's do the first thing last... here, take the deck and select a card but don't let me see it". <Once I hand the deck over to the spectator, I won't have to touch it again until after the routine is finished. I instruct the spectator to select a card and once the spectator is finished with selecting their card, I leave them holding the deck> "There we go... we're finished. That's the backwards card trick! You guys ready for something else?" <I let the crowd respond however they want, but eventually I let them off the hook and continue> "Oh... you want proof that we successfully performed this card trick backwards? Okay... before you say the name of your card, you'd have to admit that if you turn over that card on the table and it's your card, that would be great, right? But that wouldn't prove that we actually did the card trick backwards. That would only prove that I was able to predict which card you might select, and based on some of my earlier performances, you know that I have some sort of influence over what people will often choose. But to prove that we actually did this card trick backwards, do me a favor, go through the deck that you're holding and remove your card." <The spectator will go through the deck and they'll reach the end without seeing their card, even though they have been holding the deck from the point that they chose their card> "It's not there is it? What was the name of your card?" <When they name their thought of card out loud, I don't say a word. I simply look towards the face down card on the table and someone eventually takes the hint and turns it over to reveal that the backwards card trick was a success> Good times had by all every time! |

Although you cannot perform Overly Ambitious with a signed card, you could always use it as an opening phase before having the card signed.... unless you think a card vanishing from a spectator's hand is too strong as an opening.
