Matt Mello is back with a new creation which I truly believe is one of his best pieces to date. It’s very simple—perhaps even bold in its simplicity, but it is about as fair as it gets, and it is practically the real deal from the spectators perspective. I
In short, you introduce yourself to two people. One person is isolated several feet from the other and the performer has them think of something. The second person is able to intuit exactly what the other person was thinking of. This works with quite literally any piece of information in the world. For example, one person is isolated several feet away and told a specific image to focus on and imagine projecting to the other spectator. The other spectator draws the first thing that comes to mind and keeps it hidden. The first spectator reveals what image they had in mind, and it is exactly what the second spectator drew. This can be done with multiple pieces of information in a single performance, and nothing is forced; it is a genuinely free choice. If you have Matt Mello’s previous work titled “Thought Control” this is very similar, but Matt has eliminated the need for a force. So you can now perform routines with just one piece of information. As stated above, I think this is Matt’s best work to date. Don’t let the simplicity fool you. It is a powerful routine with a solid and practical method which will work 100% of the time. There’s no psychological forcing, no guesswork, and no possibility of failure (unless it’s human error.) It will work every time. This definitely works best in casual situations, and while you COULD alter it to be performed on stage, it really isn’t meant for that environment, and you will lose a big part of what makes this so effective. For completeness, I will inform you that you get two routines in the manuscript. The first is a two part effect where “Spectator A” is able to transmit a thought to “Spectator B,” and then you’re able to read the mind of “Spectator B” and tell them a totally different thought unrelated to the first. The second routine taught is the drawing duplication as laid out above. It’s my personal favorite. For $25, it’s a steal. This is propless mentalism pushed to new heights. Thought Control was a brilliant release. In it, Matt described two no-force methods (one which uses a single piece of information). Actually, a third one is described based on one of the no-force methods.
How does Hive differ from Thought Control? Is the method, as described in Thought Control, still "nicely knit together" in Hive or does the update come with a certain compromise? Please feel free to PM me to avoid any exposure. |

But you could very easily perform this in a stand up gig in a cabaret type of event. But a big stage performance in front of hundreds or thousands, there are probably better things out there. It’s vague, I know. But I don’t want to dive too deep into the limitations. Matt can chime in and reveal what he’s comfortable revealing. Quote:

I guess the thing which should mean something to you as a thought control owner is that even if you only do one reveal, the spectator can name ANYTHING. You don’t have to lead the spectator on who or what to select from their life. Hopefully that’s clear enough for you. Feel free to pm with more specific questions and I’ll help you better understand the differences. But if you liked thought control, I can confidently say you will LOVE this. Madison |

I wouldn't say there is any DR in this not in the literal DR sense. (whatever that means)
I am not sure YET if I consider this Matt's best. I say YET because I haven't used it yet and only read it a few times. It's something you have to kind of wrap your mind in. I like Matt because he thinks. And because he does so do we. I like the Imaginary Ball and The Imaginary Object and The Zombie and the Joker The imaginary object is my favorite. This one I'll have to get used to. |

I was recently reminded about 'Thought Control' and gave it a re-read today. Such a cool effect and method.
Nice coincidence that this update/variant has just dropped! I've just ordered it - Ross

Thanks for the review, Madison!
HIVE is one of my favorite propless creations. I'm so proud of the work that has gone into this system. The $19.95 introductory price will end in one week, and the price will be raised to $24.95 https://www.theoutermind.com/store/p4/HI......llo.html |

I bought this on the strength of Matt's thinking about anagrams in PATHS. HIVE is a very cool idea that will be extremely strong in casual situations, especially outdoors with two people. What you get is a very clever script from Matt which allows two people to transfer a small piece of information to each other across distance and without speaking. It's bold and simple, but will take practice to memorize the script and to get comfortable with the logistics of the experience. This is a strong tool, especially for amateur magicians, and the possibilities are endless once you understand the workings of the moment. This would be a cool thing to use during a full moon or on an equinox or other special "natural" event. It would work really well with a couple of friends sitting around a campfire. What you're paying for is Matt's work on making a moment like this even possible. I can't fully review this because I haven't tried the work out yet, but as I use this over the next few months, I'll come back and post a proper review. If you often find yourself performing in casual, social situations this thing is worth 5-10 times the asking price because it's something you'll have forever. In summation, though I have not tried this, Matt's idea is extremely clever and I look forward to coming up with presentational ideas for it. It's the kind of idea that makes you excited to perform.

Glad you like it, Gatsby! I love the idea of doing this during a special event in nature. I think that has the potential to really take this over the edge. I'd love to hear your experience if you get a chance to present it in this situation.

I like it - and I think you can do it also on stage if you use a technique which I used (and use all the time) in my second Penguin Magic Lecture (Live Act). Jan

Matt does well covering how each volunteer may compare notes and still fool themselves. It’s all about sticking to the script. Fun release.
