Sibyl, nothing to do with magic, in my opinion and is not entertainment.
Card on Ceiling, nice to have several versions all in one place. John Kennedy is not dead, no mention if Propdog received permission to use John Kennedy's to use his creation or method. Bullet, is a more custom version of the Coupon Cutter that was on the market, and used extensively by the late Tommy Wonder, it is his idea to use the razor blade cutter for the use of creating perfect easy folds in playing cards. Nice to see thievery is strong in 21 century. All of these are not so old, that they had no idea they all belonged to other famous magicians. Appalling that thieves think it okay to steal ideas of famous magicians and don't have to account for their actions, to make a buck. |

Bill, I always admire and enjoy your input on the Café, but I feel you may be coming down a bit hard in some ways.
SIBYL...TOTALLY subjective. This item is a guide and tool, as clearly explained. It is a knowledge base, and should be treated as such. What one does with the knowledge is another thing, but to say it has "nothing to do with magic," is a very broad and unsubstantiated claim. Card on Ceiling...yep. Jamy is gold, and this effect in all of its iterations, is as fresh now as the day it was first performed. Mystery Box...I hear ya. But maybe there are some credits that were not mentioned in the review? If not, I agree with you. This is a reinvention of Kennedy's prop and plot, and should be at least eluded to. Bullet...I got nothing. You know far more about this history than me. Your closing is well-crafted, but perhaps too strong for this thread? Totally agreed that this art form's intellect has been pillaged in the past, over and over again. But in this case, aren't we talking about some minor un-mentions at worse? There are far more awful cases of fraud, cheat, and just down right indecency in our craft than what you suggest here. Looking forward to your insights.
Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain.

Wizard, I feel it is getting worse and worse recently. There seems to be no dignity in magic anymore.
I did a quick search, the Coupon Cutter is back and on Amazon. Don't bother with an expansive knife, for $7 you can make your own perfect card fold cutter. https://www.amazon.com/Slice-Pillow-Pack......32&psc=1 All is fair these days I guess. |

Bill, I agree with you that the Bullet is a more custom version of a coupon cutter. MUCH more custom. It is an injection molded tool designed specifically to score playing cards. It also comes with a guide so you can score a card perfectly and quickly. You can't do that with a coupon cutter and a straight edge. It also comes with a DVD teaching 5 routines and multiple moves/techniques.
As far as stealing, I give full credit to Tommy Wonder, Helder Guimaraes, Tom Baker, Jon Allen, David Penn and Troy Hoosier who have all explored the idea of scoring cards. The Bullet just takes the concept of scoring and makes it faster and easier. Is it possible to score a card with a $7 coupon cutter? Sure. You can also make your own double faced cards with some glue. Suggesting cheaper ways to do or make stuff so you won't have to buy a marketed item not only hurts that creator but Magic in general. |

Todd, if you obtained the Tommy Wonder lecture video in London, England, You will see and hear Tommy Wonder, demonstrate the coupon Cutter. It does not go all the way through the card, it scores it. Tommy demonstrated the cutter in the video, how he used the device.
Yes, it is possible to score a playing card with a coupon cutter, because it was the 1st one used by Tommy Wonder. The cutter was designed to only cut through one sheet of newspaper, usually the wife of the house goes though the newspaper looking for sales and coupons to use when going for the weekly grocery shopping. That cutter was designed so that the underlying pages were not cut and destroyed while cutting a coupon on the page above it. If you think you need an expensive knife, then by all means get it, my main point is that no credit was given for the ground breaking method only Tommy Wonder thought of and used. |

"my main point is that no credit was given for the ground breaking method only Tommy Wonder thought of and used."
How would you know that if you don't own the Bullet? If your point was that no credit is given then you are wrong. Credit is absolutely given to Tommy and many others as I stated above. If you owned the Bullet you would know that. You would also know that the Bullet is an improvement on scoring with a razor blade or coupon cutter and a ruler. I am well aware of Tommy's work with scoring cards as I did my research before I put out this product. Your post is negative and it only serves to tear down those who try to create and offer products to the magic community. I see so much negativity on the internet. The old saying "if you don't have anything nice to say then don't say anything at all" needs to be used a lot more these days. |

Prop Dog doesn't need Kennedy's permission. His method is over 20 years old. Even if he patented it (which I realize is impractical), it would now be in the public domain and free for anyone to use and produce as they choose.
Methods like Kennedys are protected for a limited period of time precisely to encourage the perfectly legal use of said method in innovative ways after the owner's exclusivity period has ended (after 20 years). Ditto with the coupon cutter, it's older than 20 years. No magic exemption exists. Perhaps you spoke of rape and thievery a little too hastily... Quote: On Mar 13, 2019, Bill Hegbli wrote:

The Bullet is about way more than just the cutter. The instruction video is loaded with great routines, moves and tips that alone were worth the asking price, IMO

Hi Bill,
Despite what the review says, Perfect Score was the first of its kind on the market and a game changer. Weirdly enough, it actually got pretty rough treatment from some people when it first came out and even before it came out. What it does, and The Bullet does too, that makes it a valuable tool is to include a template. I can tell you that Perfect Score actually uses a coupon cutter which helps to keep the costs down. A 'cost cutter' if you like Todd gave credit to Tommy Wonder as did I. He had the idea to score cards but this has now been moved on to the point where a template allows this to be done more quickly and easily. I did not know he used a coupon cutter so I guess I am carrying on his idea further than I realised.
