You don't give dimensions, and being musically ignorant for the most part, I can't visualize a half guitar. I would check out a large square circle or a
tipover box. You may be able to make one out of cardboard or stitch up a huge devils napkin use fabric. |

Rob,
Even a half size guitar is pretty big for any of my prodution props. I think the idea of making a production box out of card board and decorating it as a gift is the easiest most affordable way to go. You can also by corigated plastic board fairly cheap to make a light weight reusable prop fast! Show the gift box empty have everyone say happy Birthday and then have him open his gift.

If you produce the inflatable, when you go to blow them up tell the kids you can't talk to them while you blow it up, but can show them a really good magic trick. You can make your face change colour. This gets a laugh from the older kids and adults
As your face goes red when you blow the inflatable up you sometimes get some amazing reactions from the younger kids.....WOW it's going red!!!!!
Yours Funfully

Yes, that's a great idea.

I don't know if you have time for this solution, but you could make a Temple Screen out of 4 pieces of Luan plywood, with a pocket on the back to hold the guitar.
Just make the screen large enough and handle it like the regular item. |

Production of silks -- LOTS of silks.
Start with silks popping out of your breast pocket as you remove one. Occasion for much comedic by-play. Continue producing silks, getting larger and larger. Use a square circle. Work your way up to producing a tablecloth. Produce napkins, but one short of what you thought you needed. Look around for last napkin (it is stuck to your back). The kids tell you where it is. Pretend you don't understand. Run around the staging area as directed by the kids. In the ensuing pandemonium, steal the wrapped guitar from behind your suitcase table or a convenient piece of furniture and conceal under the silks and tablecloth. Finally have birthday child remove the napkin from your back, while you have moved away from the guitar's place of concealment. Thank the birthday child by producing the guitar. 0pus |

I was thinking "large Temple Screen" but Olivertwist beat me to it .
Depending on length of the child's guitar perhaps you could construct the "Temple Screen" prop from pre-cut pieces of 20" x 30" foam core board available at most art and craft stores. The foam core is lightweight, but very strong (especially the 1/2" thick foam core board ) Get some gaffer's tape or bookbinding tape to hinge it together . If the guitar is under 30" in length then you could get away with using the pre-cut standard size foam core board. Larger art stores will usually carry oversize pieces of foam core, as large as 5' x 5' so you can cut the panels to custom size using a straight edge and a utility knife . For the guitar production you would not necessarily need a load "bag" on the hidden panel , but rather simply use a three strips of wide elastic to hold the guitar in place on the back of the hidden panel . Or use a long pillowcase as the load bag , so you could produce other items prior to the guitar . If it doesn't tip-off the birthday child to what's coming I would suggest that the decoration for the screen panels be done by enlarging pieces of sheet music (take to Kinko's or other good print shop : they will have an oversize copier that can blow up standard 8.5" x 11" sheet music to large poster size ) Copy the panels of sheet music in two different colors , say white and light blue , so that the effect of showing both sides of the screen is emphasized . Or you could just use a paint brush to paint musical notes on either side of the screen panels . Maybe better to keep the screen panels decorated with a more neutral design so you can use it again for other shows . I saw one "Temple Screen" decorated with nice contrasting flat colors and large question marks in opposite contrasting colors on either side of the panels. |

Would you believe that after all the planning, the parents forgot the guitar. It figures...

A trunk with a false bottom. I was going to show it empty and then proceed to pull streamers, silks, with a final streamer attached to the guitar.

I play guitar and know about the size simple idea.
Large cardboard box decorate it with a rotating back on a wood dowell attach guitar use imagination Good luck. or try this have the dowell look like a crank and have a slot on top open the box and show the box empty toss a guitar pick and a jimmy hendrix poster in the slot give a crank and wow a guitar. of corse the kid will forget all about the trick when he sees his new guitar anyway. |
