Hmm...I'm not sure what to say. As far as plain old tricks go, I like Gerry. But somehow, you just can't beat good old David when it comes to those radical endurance tests.

So I am assuming that the routing Gerry did with the twins is PK Touches, right? Great way of performing that one, with twins and all. Made a lot of sense.
I'm not as familiar with mentalism as more general magic but I can say some of those routines were simply amazing. I'm hoping it wasn't the simple use of stooges... but if this sort of thing can be learned from analysis of Corrinda's 13 Steps I'm definately moving it closer to the top of my list... --Jack |

Gerry McCambridge just returned from the Psychic Entertainers Association annual convention in Chicago. He received an award from his peers for his outstanding contributions to mentalism.
A few people tell me he openly discusses the methods used on his show with other mentalists at the convention and on a hard core mentalist only internet forum, and none of the effects were stooged. The show aired in the US to almost 7 million people, not including all the people in Canada and the UK who watched it. According to Gerry’s web site http://www.mentalist.com, the show is scheduled to air in quite a few different countries in the coming months. Gerry openly states that he signed up to do one show and one show only. His contract with NBC gives them the right of first refusal on his next two, if he decides to do more. I for one, hope he does. He might not have the same personality as Derren Brown, but then again, Blaine is no Copperfield, and both have succeeded in the public eye as entertainers. |

I remember "Gerry" from many years back when he was organizing magic conventions as a young man in a powder blue tuxedo. He organized a great one in New Jersey that had Blackstone Jr., Slydini and Randi, among others. It was incredible for me as a twelve year old to see and meet these guys, I was hooked instantly.

Bill, I think you have the wrong guy.
Riley... awww, forget it, the post will be deleted is we run in circles again anyway. He has a special, and you do not. He entertains the masses with good clean mentalism, you take money from the Japanese to help find missing children and dead bodies with your TRUE PSYCHIC ABILITY which us tricksters at the Café do not have. Keep up the good work. |

No, I know I have the right guy, and I know his REAL name too, still have the program from that one day convention.

Bill, Gerry McCambridge IS his real name. Unless it was a mentalist convention, he never organized any such thing. Recheck your facts.

Luke, I don't know what your connection to "Gerry" is and I'm not trying to say anything negative about him. I enjoy his mentalism and wish him well in his TV show. It's just that I remember this guy from thirty years ago and he was a decent young magician. It's not a crime to have a stage name, whats the big deal?

The beauty is that the show aired, got acceptable ratings, and may, just may open the doors for similar shows.
For the magic/mentalist thinkers out there, start developing your concept and start pitching it to the networks as they look for something similar to air. Nothing breeds copying like success. Critique what worked and what didn’t and use that data to build something better (even more saleable!) and get out there and do it! Blaine, McCambridge, and even Valentino opened some doors by creating a little interest. Unfortunately, most of the interest dissolved to a bunch of preteens wanting to be cool, a ton of people decrying how Valentino ruined magic, and now bashing McCambridge for the weaknesses in his program. The door of interest is open and ready for the next person to walk through it and build upon the interest. Unfortunately, the door doesn’t stay open long. Interest does wane.

Bill, I am a McCambridge fan, and a friend of his. I know he is 41 years old. If your claims are true, 30 years ago would make him 11 years old, and organizing magic conventions at 11 years old sounds pretty far fetched.

Just ask him if he ever went by the name Craig...that's all I'm saying.

According to his web site, his managers name is Craig. Could you be mixing them up? |

The funny thing is that I like to think that I follow magic pretty closely and until a few years ago, I had never heard of this guy. Then all of a sudden he is getting a TV show. Does anyone have any biographical information on Mr McCambridge other than the general stuff on his website of growing up with the ability to mind-meld with people. Where did he grow up, what were his early influences? In any event, I wish Gerry all the best in his career and I apologize for casting aspersions on him. But...he already knew I was going to say that. Ok, this is really my last post on this topic. I got an email from Gerry McCambridge assuring me that he was born Gerald McCambridge and switched to Gerry several years ago because everyone was calling him that. He stated that he has never worn a powder blue tux and never organized a magic convention in New Jersey. Sorry for the case of mistaken identity. Long live The Mentalist. |
