I recently bought McBride's manipulation dvd and I don't understand how to hold the cards.
please help |

Just copy McBride. The cards are gripped mainly by the middle finger and the base of the thumb. Practise with a few cards, 4 or 5 to begin with. Then work your way up.

I took the time to watch the dvd closely and I can hold them properly but I can't produce them and they keep falling.

Watch the DVD some more. You are not watching closely enough and listening.
Then watch with cards in hand. Then watch again to correct what you are doing wrong. Then watch to check everything. Hope you understand what I am trying to tell you. |

I would also add that you should videotape your practices. This way you can really see what you are doing and compare it with the McBride video. This is a great way to see what you might be doing wrong.

If they keep falling, try placing your pinky finger along the outer edge of the card rather than on top with your middle and 4th finger. Just move that finger from the top of the corner to more of the side of the card, and this should support them better to keep them from falling (if you do not do it already). Also, when you do the "move" to get the card in place to be produced, make sure you get a good grip with your thumb around the middle of the card. If you are not outjogging the card enough, you won't have anything to clip with your index finger and produce. I sometimes will even push the card up to about an inch off of the packet. As long as the whole pushing and producing is done in one smooth motion, it should still look very good. Hope these help a little bit, Evan |

Practise more before you post! When I startd manip with cards I would try for 5 minutes then come on the Café and ask why McBride could do it better! Manipulation with cards takes hundreds of hours of practise! Practise everything for like 15 hours before you post about it. Then you will not need to!
I hope this doesn't sound mean!! I am trying to give good advice... DJ |

With all respect , I think the perfect time to ask any question is always "now." Any question must be addressed. If the question seem impertinent then we have the right to ignore it.

Coolleprechaun, your question was a bit vague.
What McBride DVD are you watching? What is the slight/manipulation you want help with? What cards are you using? What level of manipulator are you? How old are you? This would help us to give you a good and helpful answer. Doh! The clue is in the topic title.

Partizan, I believe he is learning from 'Art of Card Manipulation' volume 1, and he is practising the 'Perfect Production'.
He will need to answer the other question, however. :) |
