Perhaps someone can help me understand how it works. I used to purchase quite a lot of items from the USA and ship them over to the Uk both new and from dealers. But now with the postage costs together with the import tax I am becoming more reluctant to do so as this can be almost double the items value.
Yet if I buyt from China it can be cheaper than going to my local magic shop. I’m not talking about knock offs as I have strong feelings on that. IThe only explanation I can come up with is they are more savvy and they they look at the various countries import duties tariffs closely and come up with ways to look get around them legally. For example a DVD becomes educational material.which is what is is after all. The £200 trick box shown becomes a £20 wooden box.. The £35 card trick is a packet of cards at £1 a packet of cards.and so on. I have yet to import anything from India. I did try to hunt out a dealer shop over there during a recent visit and was very disappointed to find everything was plastic. Having dragged the guy out to open the shop I felt obliged to buy something. Ialso have family working in Muscat Oman so visit twice a year. Anyone found any magic. There. I did think Magic was a dodgy subject there but I noticed there was one magician advertising and saw an act at the annual music festival.. Perhaps the Café can have a section where people who travel and find little gems put it in the relevant country for those needing supplies when on the cruise ships etc. Egypt is my next destination Cairo , Any ideas |
