Did you think you would ever see one?
If there is a single truth about Magic, it is that nothing on earth so efficiently evades it.

All Joking aside, I think the photo is fascinating simply by virtue that we were able to take it at all. However, seeing a black hole, specifically that black hole, is not hard to do at all. You can see it with the naked eye. All you have to do is go out on a dark clear night. Get someone who knows where to look to show you the constellation of Saggitarius. You will notice a small area in the middle of it with no stars at all. You are looking at the Super Massive Black Hole at the center of the Milky Way Galaxy. Not much to see, but very cool when you think about it.

Until now, every image of a black hole you have ever seen has been an artist's impression.

I'm waiting for confirmation from Maximilian first...
I still recall the day I met Beaker from the Muppets. He said to me "Meep, meep, mee mee mee Meep!", and that has made all the difference.

I read somewhere that despite what the press is saying, these are not actual pictures of a black hole. They are computer-generated images that illustrate
what radio telescopes detected at the center of M87. Still they are very impressive. Tom

If I'm reading it right we still know very little about what's out there.
“Between black holes, dark matter, and dark energy, we now estimate that upwards of ninety-five percent of the universe is completely hidden from us – and might always be. If true, it means the entire discipline of astronomy – including Einstein’s vaunted theory – is based on an awareness of less than 5 percent of creation. In other words, as in this week’s stunning image, there is an enormous black hole in our understanding of what’s truly out there.” https://www.foxnews.com/opinion/michael-......9F5iRlbo Tom

In short, as I've said often, we know almost nothing of the universe. But it is definitely fascinating.

On Apr 13, 2019, TomBoleware wrote: The author, Michael Guillen, is a Christian apologist who makes the outrageous claim that God is confirmed by science (https://www.michaelguillen.com/). And that would explain his cynical tone in Tom’s article. Here are some excerpts (italics is mine): -alleged image of a black hole -purportedly at the center of the M87 galaxy -if it is indeed what its authors claim -the image is not a photograph, but a simulated, false-color visual representation of data collected from eight worldwide radio telescopes – telescopes that detect radio waves, not visible light – and engineered by a convoluted computer algorithm. -the image does not reveal an actual black hole, but the electromagnetic chaos astronomers imagine to be swirling around one. The M87 black hole, if it exists, appears as a — well, black spot. As in black box. As in obscure mystery. -And this week’s sensational image is certainly of no help. To the contrary, the perfectly shaped, perfectly sized, perfectly black donut hole merely rubs the mystery in our faces. -Black holes, as it happens, aren’t the only opaque mysteries punching holes in astronomy’s worldview of the cosmos. He attempts to impute a “worldview” on astronomy and diminish this wonderful scientific achievement. And rather than earnestly celebrate the fact that science has scored yet another great accomplishment, he disingenuously shifts the focus to two other currently unexplained astronomical phenomena - dark matter and dark energy. As if a lack of scientific knowledge puts his theology and science on equal footing. It doesn’t. He concludes with: “In other words, as in this week’s stunning image, there is an enormous black hole in our understanding of what’s truly out there.” Of course, the insinuation here is that science has a huge gap in it's understanding. He, on the other hand, does have the ultimate answer to the cosmos. Ron
