The dude is getting rich real quick. No false shuffles. Just...well...”gambler sense.” Advantage play means...ah...uh...forgive me!...playing with an advantage, and the advantage isn’t always manipulating playing cards. Or poker chips. Or hold-outs or yadayayada But perhaps this is the wrong forum for discussing such things. Sorry for the intrusion. |

Thanks Jeff. The only thing I know is that they vet the contestants for these games and so it is surprising in the first place that a Sports Better got on.
If there is a single truth about Magic, it is that nothing on earth so efficiently evades it.

Fascinating story and definitely one that fits here.

I read a few more stories about him on the weekend. There's a fascinating dislike for what he's doing. One example: https://variety.com/2019/tv/columns/jame......3195487/
He's the James Grosjean of Jeopardy. My only complaint is that he is so public about his methods. I wish he'd written a $500 book instead, which you can only buy if he thinks you're worthy. Where have all the secrets gone? I hear that even Steve Forte is writing a book.... |

James is still tearing it up. Pretty impressive stats along the journey too. Close call Monday however. Keep championship by a meagre $18.

It's just more proof that any gambling situation can be analyzed in the pursuit of an advantage, and then once an advantage is discovered ... it can be exploited by somebody with chops to do so.
Far from a fluke, this chap is exploiting inherent weaknesses in the game that even the game creators couldn't (and didn't) anticipate were possible.

It is very rare to find one. I can only think of one we found and although the bets we were placing were legal, it was not long before they banned us. The advantage was to do with the Tote minimum pay-out being 10%. Like when card counters found an edge they banned them.

I didn't post all of the links, but I read at least half a dozen articles complaining that James is "bad television." But there is this:
https://variety.com/2019/tv/news/james-h......3207928/ What's more fascinating is the prediction of former jeopardy champions. Again, I'm not going to post all the links, but the long and short of it is this: he will probably succeed in having the *richest* streak, but not the *longest* streak. In other words, he'll get the money. Isn't that what a gambler supposed to do, after all? |

Gamblers are supposed to gamble. There are those who gamble and there are those who make a living from those who gamble.
If there is a single truth about Magic, it is that nothing on earth so efficiently evades it.
