Marc Paul's lectures (all of them) are freaking gold. Jan's I don't have. Looch's Penguin Live lectures were really enjoyable but I personally was less impressed by his Live Act (maybe because of unrealistic standards? I don't know but my opinion is my opinion).

I personally loved Drew Backenstoss' Live Act but I could see arguments against it being the best initial investment for somebody who doesn't have any of the Penguin (or Alakazam) lectures. Some others might be better for somebody just getting off the ground. Again, I personally loved Drew's Live Act, I want to stress that (and I would say if I didn't like it).

All in all, in my opinion, the two best lectures are Marc Paul's original Penguin Live and, off topic for this thread but still super highly recommended, Marc Paul's Alakazam Academy lecture, which was just so great.

Best of luck!

I'd add to the list Colin McLeod. Still one of the best that I've watched.

Luke Jermay. He is some kind of philoshopher-mentalist.

I can recommend Fernando Figueras if you are interested in mentalism with business cards

If I had to pick my faves, I'd go for the john riggs, docc H and Cassidy (solo) ones...and the Figueras one is interesting too...

and both Looch ones are well worth the money, you could kinda pick n mix your own set from those two...

Jan Forster is the man, every effect is extremely commercial, very well explained and he seems to be such a nice bloke!

My short list of favorites are:

1. Banacheck

2. Jan Forster (first lecture)

3. Ross Johnson

4. Marc Paul LIVE ACT

5. Bob Cassidy Q&A Masterclass. Technically not a Penguin Live lecture, but an amazing class.

Each of course has a different personality and performance style. What they have in common is they are all monster showmen with their performances honed and polished from decades of performing. All of their shows are captivating, fun and interesting...not boring like some others.

I rarely don't get the methods, but I have to say Jan Forster's live act fooled me a few times, very good material, I now use one of his routine sometimes, for fun (the one with numbers)

I don't usually watch many lectures but some weeks ago I watched an "old" Colin McLeod Penguin Lecture and there are some gems in the shape of advices there.

But, anyway, a good lecture gives you food for thoughts regardless if it is about magic or mentalism. A bad one will not, no matter the topic.

And now I will check some of the ones recommended here!
