I started with a concept by Walter B. Gibson who wrote about it in the 1970's and I have adapted it to the pseudo-science of Cartomancy. It's a great way to start a performance for a Cartomancer (read "magician with chutzpah"). All it takes is a Cartomancy Card Board (a board on which you attach playing cards like sticky notes, not a piece of cardboard), and two spectator volunteers cover the board with a well shuffled deck of ordinary (Dollar Store for me!) playing cards. It is obvious that the cards are all mixed up on the board, yet the Cartomancer (that's you) is able to use the Card Board to reveal the identities of any number of secret cards chosen by the audience, PLUS add readings onto the revelation to encourage audience members to meet him later in the Fortune Telling Tent (or table), which, as we all know, is where the real money is made. The fact that you can reveal a card secretly chosen is a good start to convincing people you can do this (BS) for real. It's the latest published item in The Wizards' Journal #39 at The Magic Nook.

Cool - but why use "ordinary cards" when you can use something cool like these: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VdKosVMX4gU

I think that the cards used for cartomancy should reflect their ancient heritage, not look like some sort of modern deck.

My own preference is for the artwork found in the Genoese pattern used in one of the Dal Negro decks, available in both blue and red backs.

For me, a real cartomancer just uses any old deck... Leave the symbolism in the tarot... I used either a regular deck of Waddington or if I'm at a place which has a certain quality, my 1930s art deco deck with gold leaf. But still, standard UK faces...

My point is, that ancient cartomancers would use cards of their time too...

Wasn't until the Game Of Hope and others came about did things get fancier..

Part of the fun for me is the details. When I was working through Julian Moore’s book, I made a practice deck with key words on all the cards. Using these for readings adds a certain atmosphere because they’ve clearly been customized for fortune telling. I don’t think it is vital to use special cards, but I do think it adds to the experience a bit.

Good idea! I will mention the source: https://deadonpaper.com/collections/playing-cards in my e-Book, and as long as the cards have the 52 card make up of today's playing cards, it will work with my "opener revelation" and add much to the atmosphere of the effect.

I will add your sources to my e-Book as well. There is no reason my opening revelation card effect cannot also be done with these cards, as long as you don't mind the postage costs to get them delivered in the US.
