Iam not a professional, but Im involved in magic for years. Still I don’t know some things. I have a gig in June and I want to open with some manipulations. I have bought years ago a card dropper from Nielsen magic, and Im trying to learn now how to properly use it. The instructions are really short. My problem is that sometimes a card drops easily but not when you need it. Can you help me how to use it? any tip? Are there other card droppers in the market? It seems everyone is pleased with this device.
I have to pin it in the bottom line of my coat ? Or a bit higher? Is it common to drop cards now and then? I tried full deck, 1/3 but still the cards they stand inside but they are not safe. Maybe when I use a dropper I have to be careful with my motions? But how can I produce cards then? |

The Nielsen Dropper that you refer to is designed to "deliver an entire deck into your hands." That might be useful if, for instance, you want to magically produce a fanning deck to begin a routine of exhibition card fans.
If on the other hand you want to secretly obtain packets of, say, 15 to 25 cards for producing magically from the air, you might want to look at other types of card holders. There was one holder called "McDermott's Little Wonder Card Holdout" that held multiple packets of cards. I don't know if any shops still carry it. Ed Marlo's "Card Fan Productions_ booklet has sections titled "The Hat Steal" and "The Card Clip." Also, look into Jeff McBride's "Art of Card Manipulation." Volume 2." It has a section titled "Body Loads and Steals - Clips - Vesting." Some magicians make their own card clips from paper clips available at office supply stores like this clip: https://ae01.alicdn.com/kf/HTB1sh6bOpXXX......tive.jpg (The McDermott Clip that I referenced above was something like three of these butterfly clips welded together.) Having said the above, however, the current trend seems to be to eliminate steals from the body. ----- Amado "Sonny" Narvaez

Here are youtube clips of two magicians who have very good card manipulation acts with no need for a body card dropper of any kind:
Charlie Frye https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SaOX-GMwhqs and Jeff McBride https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uUaYUk0alRo&t=30s Denny Haney is another magician who had a great card manipulation act with no need for a card dropper. ----- Amado "Sonny" Narvaez
