From a press release May 11th (for the Fall season on PAX TV). I think I'll be taping this one.
"The Magician" Faster than you can say "Abracadabra" viewers are transported into the mysterious world of a professional magician. "The Magician," a one-hour series showcasing the David Copperfields of the world vying for their opportunity to headline at the legendary Magic Castle in Hollywood, the exclusive "magicians only" club. Each illusionist has every trick in the book up their sleeve and is prepared for the cut-throat competition judged each week by a panel of famous magicians and celebrity guests. Upon completion of the performance in which each magician fulfills a trick from a different magical genre, judges will critique them according to the technical difficulty, originality, and presentation. Tension is thick, and the entertainment level is off the charts as the competitors must astound the judges, impress the audience and intimidate their peers. "The Magician" is produced by KAOS Entertainment with David Harding, John Scheer ("Honor and Glory," "America's Castles") and Rob Englehardt ("Those Who Dare") as executive producers. --- |

How much are they paying The Magic Castle for this?
It doesn't seem like something the Magic Castle would really do... or maybe they would. I don't know since I have never been there.

Ooo, it's like American Idol, magic style. Woohoo! This is something I'll watch.
By the way, do they still give out the World Magic Awards, and if so, when (usually) is the ceremony and do they televise it anymore? |

I remember early in the current season of American Idol (which is great TV), a contestant who didn't do very well made some sort of magic/David Copperfield reference to defend his ****-poor singing attempt. Hehe, Simon Cowell told him "if this were magician's idol, you might have something, but it's not..."
Pretty amusing, I'd watch a "magician idol" show too! --Jack jack-stephens.com |

Eons ago, the Magic Castle used to have a "Gong Show" night where aspiring performers would audition for membership and/or the right to perform at the most prestigious magic club in the world. It was for the most part embarassing. If PAX airs this, the rebirth of the "magic gong show", it would become a very good representation of bad magic... and none of us need that. Especially the Castle. Hope there's a good screening process.
On the other hand, it IS airing on PAX. At the very least, most of America won't even see it. Even if my tv rabbit ears could pick up the signal, I'd still ignore it. |

Whatever came of this show? I don't watch a lot of PAX, but I don't recall it airing either.
