Hi there, I wondered if anybody could suggest some powerful mind reading routines done over the phone or ideally skype which have a visual element to them please? I looked into Jim Steinmeyers Impuzzibilities series and nothing was suitable for what I'm after there. If its something which isn't just maths focused would be good. Any help or advice or resources to find such info in would be great please? Thanks in advance.

You could use an invisible deck over a video call or maybe a multiple out routine with all the outs hidden in the room somewhere (under a keyboard, back of a chair etc) maybe using esp symbols. You could do an effect with anagrams or use a psych force, something like Peter turners ‘wish you were here’. You could maybe do some sort of palm reading?

I second the idea of using an invisible deck or brainwave deck over a video call. I believe Patrick Redford also has a couple of routines for the telephone in one of his "comic book" releases, though the name(s) escape me.

I sometimes perform Linear Blackjack from Foolproof card tricks/More self-working card tricks by Karl Fulves. But instead of the blackjack theme, I use it as a 3 card monte effect. That book by the way has a whole chapter of telephone tricks.

If I wanted to perform tricks over the phone or skype, I would start to think whether some of my favorite (face-to-face) tricks could be adapted for a remote performance. For example Banachek's Ring of truth. (This requires 2 spectators, that's why conference calls have been invented. Smile Or if you want visual element, what about the Princess card trick? Or Hex squared from the above mentioned Fulves book? This latter can use cards, as in the description, or colored and b&w photographs as Derren Brown did. Maybe I would try some psychological force, "fishing by majority" principle, cold reading...

Thank you for your advice... sorry the situation has changed - it is for somebody who will not have the camera functionality on their skype. Apologies.

Is it someone you could do research on ?? Maybe do some digging and reveal some personal information. It can be very obvious but if done subtlety it can come across as very believable.

Never mind, performing in real life is much better!

But if it is impossible to meet, you don't have to give up even without a camera! For example, the Hex squared can be performed in the following way: 1) you send the picture of the 16 cards/photos arranged in the array (or you share your screen), 2) the spectator randomly selects one (according to the instructions of the trick), 3) she concentrates on the selected card/photo while you slowly start to describe what she is concentrating on. No camera tricks Smile

I have long performed my Sign Language over Skype and similar video links. I have even done it over the telephone, though it is definitely easier where there is a visual component.

Karl Fulves-self working card tricks has a number of phone tricks though the vast majority involve some mathematical or counting element. I vaguely remember a number in Nelson designed for radio. Might be worth looking up older mentalism material designed for doing over airwaves. Listen to some Dunninger radio show. May lead you to a lot of two person telepathy acts, but there are a few within the jinx. For me this is where readings come in but not for everyone. Could throw in some bits from naked mentalism and psychological subetleties for good measure.

Best thing to do, IMO, is, use your knowledge of this wonderful art and take from some of the legendary contributors of past and present. They have all released unbelievable material that can be used in ANY environment. Combine this with your own creative twist, and a little matter of having no camera installed on Skype will not be a hurdle at all.
