Hi Mike,
Congratulations on completing your project must be a great feeling. Many of us here have appreciated all the input you give to the forum and I am sure you will recieve some good support. Seeing your posts here at the Café it seems that you work mainly behind a bar. Can you tell us if there are any angle problems if your routines are taken out of this context. Fancy giving us some stories about how these routines have played for you at your place of work? Don't worry mike I'm not after a sales pitch...I'll be buying it anyway...just thought it would be fun to find out Best of luck with it all Chris Actually....just ordered it....Oooh the suspense |

I was just responding to your post when I got the order notification Chris. Thanks man... You're officially the first person ever to buy my manuscript
And I will respond to your post a little later today, I've got a meeting in about 15 minutes. One pdf, coming up! Thanks again Chris. Best, Mike |

Congrats on the pdf Mike.
I am big fan of bar magic, so it will be interesting to see what coin magic ideas you have from the other side of the bar. |

Okay guy's I have only just got this manuscript but first impressions for me is that I am going to throughly enjoy reading this and having gone through the "Totem" plot description and explination I know what the next routine in my repetoir is going to be That's unless any more gems jump out of this manuscript and pip it to the post.
The presentation in PDF Format is superb...nicely presented and easy to follow. Pictures are easily viewed also. I Like the fact that you get a full presentation of the plot, notes on preparation and then the effect itself. It seems to me after an initial scan of the document that it is assumed that you will already have a good understanding of coin magic although most of the sleights involved are covered in agood amount of detail. I'll check with Mike if it's okay, but I may post a proper review here on the site...should give me a project Cheers Mike, I hope this is the first of many |

I had a bit of trouble with this post yesterday, and had to have a few edits done to conform it to Café policy. That now done, I wanted to answer Chris's questions from yesterday:
Chris wrote: "...Can you tell us if there are any angle problems if your routines are taken out of this context (behind the bar)." *The effects are not specifically routined to be done from behind the bar, they are all very angle and lighting friendly. I walk around a lot, and I do an occasional impromptu gig at a local coffee house, so I made sure that the routines in Tav Mag were universal in nature. Chris wrote: "Fancy giving us some stories about how these routines have played for you at your place of work?" *The best story that I can think of, that involved one of the routines from the manuscript, pertains to "Paying the Postman". I did it for a couple, and the guy was so disturbed that he couldn't find the "hole" in the envelope, that he left the bar, walked about 1/8 of a mile to a convenience store, bought a box of envelopes, came back, and demanded that I do it again with his envelope, and of course with different coins. I happened to have my Coin Unique set with me, with makes a very nice substitute for the standard props used in that effect. I did the routine again, using his envelope, what he thought was his quarter, and a half dollar. It literally blew his, and his wife's minds. They still talk about it when they come in. That's why I love magic, it's that look of astonishment, and knowing that neither they, nor I will forget that night anytime soon. Best, Mike |

I'm on the darkside of the moon, as it applies to NYS. Extreme Western NY... where every city's budget runs out by May 11, and every citizen wonders why the pot holes on Main street still have not been fixed
I never knew what Lake effect snow meant until I had to shovel it off of my driveway every morning for 5 months a year. However, I am giving serious thought to moving back to Massachusetts to rejoin civilization again. :) Best, Mike |

Hi Mike,
You'll hopefully be pleased to know that Totem has seen the light of day over this side of the pond (UK). I saw a friend of mine to day who is an excellent card magician. He asked if I had been working on anything new magic wise. I told him I had recieved a great manuscript the day before and proceeded to show him "Totem". Most of the moves in your routine I already do on a regular basis and I swapped out the click pass for a steal other than that it was the same...you know that look you get from other magicians who are trying to stay cool and not look too amazed ... Job done my friend, job done...great routine....thanks mike for sharing that one. By way of a brief review for the guy's here at the Café:- This is a really good manuscript. The writing is clear and concise and I like the way that the effect, preparation and methods are broken down into separate parts along with a few performance notes at the side of the page. The other thing I found useful was the fact that the pictures are on a separate page. I printed the document to read it and having the pictures in order at the side as I read the routines was a great help to understanding how the routines go. The routines themselves are well thought out and have the feel of being tried and tested by the author. The first routine is g****kless, the second has some (standard) g*****s ] and C/S, The third and fourth use slightly less standard g*****s but the quality of routining may see those of us who don't posess these articles paying a visit to our friendly local magic shop. I won't go into too much detail about the effects themselves here on an open forum but of the effects I have the props for...i.e the first two I will be putting them into my repetoir and I can't remember the last time I bought a magic book and learned around 50% of the routines...actually Kenners "Totally Out of Control" was probably the other time. Check out Mike's site for more descriptions of the effects. Regards Chris |

I agree 100% I've been reading the manuscript this morning. The totem in particular. It'll fit into a copper/silver bit I've been playing with lately.

This is an amazing manuscript for the affordable price. The quality of the actual file alone is worth the price.
Well done Mike and Thanks.

I'm very happy that you all are finding my manscript useful.
It's my first stab at writing something of this nature, and I was more than a little worried when I released it a couple days ago. If anyone who has bought Tavern Magic has any questions or wants clarification on any points, pm or email me, and I'll do my best to help. Thanks again everyone! Best, Mike |

The new photo was my girlfriend's idea. She seems to think my recent change to long hair makes me look more "magical" than the older buzz cut look did. Actually, I'm not sure what the exact hair length to magic ratio is, but I suppose it was about time for a newer picture.

Mike....
Friends don't let friends get Hair cuts. So if you ever consider getting it cut again, come to your fellow long hair friend here.

Mike-
Great manuscript! Full of great routines and plenty of other good ideas. In addition to the quality of the content, the format and production value of the manuscript are top-notch as well. Though I am new to the Café and my opinion probably carries little weight, I heartily recommend Mike's manuscript to anyone who is interested in straight-forward coin work. At $7.50, it is a bargain. Cheers, Tiki |

Thanks man. I don't think that because of your relative newness to the Café, that you're opinion is less valuable than anyone elses... as a matter of fact, since you used your opinion to compliment my manuscript, I'd say it's right up there on my " very important opinion list"
Welcome, and thank you. Best, Mike |
