I would suggest you not make such a mess, as a courtesy.

I agree, this is why comedy clubs often despise magic acts. Very disrespectful to other acts and the venue itself. That performance seemed very flat (other than the wide laughing) and low-energy, and kind of inappropriate for that type of adult venue.

I wish I remember the magician who gave us this tip at a local convention years ago.. I can't remember, he is a cruise ship performer who mixes magic with juggling.
And he also has his signature salt pour routine, in which he'll have a black tarp/cloth he laid on the floor first, and at the end, he can pick everything up clean by his assistant. Could be your solution there my friend, cheers

Basically just look at it, this seems to be the category to place such a thing, I really do not need help and did not ask for it. I can see why members are reluctant to post videos..( I have been told so ) ..it is amusing the criticisms of being disrespectful to low energy, I really do not have to explain myself but FYI a person with me cleaned everything up at the conclusion of the evening, I play such clubs approximately four months out of the year when not performing schools, malls, etc...for over thirty years. In this performance received many compliments from comedians on the bill...would love to see your performance infront of a live audience at a comedy club....any takers....I didn't think so! Keyboard warriors hard at work..

Wow! Here you go Anverdi=museum. Here is one of my clips. Please notice the laughter during the set. I believe your wife was your biggest fan there and she sure did laugh the loudest. You mean to tell me you do this act at comedy clubs and get paid? I was going to give you a few suggestions but, it sounds like you already think you know what you are doing when it comes to comedy and comedy clubs. Keep up the work for guys like me. Here is one of my short sets it has some adult content in it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-wdFs-mpFmQ

So what was the point? Just to say look at me? Then to criticize comments that the post generates when most were willing to offer assistance and guidance. THEN to offer an uninformed criticism of those willing to take the time and assist you, not to mention you have no idea who you are talking to or about. Bairefoot performs comedy clubs regularly, and I have owned, booked, produced and promoted comedy clubs, comedy nights, and comedy tours nationwide for over 30 years, including owning an agency representing over 300 comics as well as being a national headliner in comedy clubs myself as well for decades. It was a poor performance that I would think you'd be open to receiving constructive criticism and assistance on from those with more experience in an effort to assist you and help you grow. Instead, you choose to sling comments at the very people willing to help, without any consideration to who you're speaking to. As I said, this would never be tolerated in any clubs, comedy nights or venues of mine. The performance was weak, juvenile, the only one laughing was your wife, and the mess should have been dealt with BEFORE the emcee ever came back up. There is so much more that could be mentioned on this but it's clear you are unwilling to be open to learn, which again brings me back to the original question, why post the video, just to say look at me? Also one does not need to post a video of their own for offering comments on what was problematic or they didn't like. That would be like saying you could only say you didn't like a movie you just saw unless you could make a better one yourself. That's crazy! So as someone with 30 years experience, did you think this video was funny? Perhaps if you're basing how well your act went over to this performance from just some of the comedians on the bill that night, perhaps you may be listening to the wrong people. That's the first rule of being a professional entertainer is knowing who and what to listen to and what it really means. Who are you playing for - other comedians or the paying audience, booker and venue? Then to call our posts disrespectful? I could say the same about you here - how disrespectful it is for your to take our thoughts in a negative light when we A.) actually took the time to watch the video and B.) then offer some helpful and constructive insights in an effort to help and assist you. That seems far more disrespectful and unprofessional than constructive criticism from other professionals. |

MIndpro you hit a home run on this one. I was just too lazy to write all that. Like we both said he sure is not making any money with that act in a comedy club. If so I would be rich. By the way when you wrote "I didn't think so! Keyboard warriors hard at work.." THAT WAS FUNNIER THAN YOUR WHOLE ACT!!

LOL!, so true (not to mention completely inaccurate - no Keyboard Warriors here, just working pros doing this 7 days a week, 52 weeks a year for decades). Once again, huge difference between facts and opinions.

Yes, too bad. I would have really welcomed a great discussion on performing in comedy clubs and details related to that market and venue. It, like some other markets, is often so misunderstood by many. Plus, if you specialize in other markets, comedy clubs are great venues for pick-up bookings and opening spots for national acts, and so many other benefits that are present that can help your performing business in many ways.
It always bothers me how OPs never return to their own posts to further the discussion, as it isn't always just about them as others become invested in the posts and thread as well. Plus it goes back to my original question - what was the point of posting such a video in the first place? If the OP is not willing to share or return to his own thread, maybe others that work comedy clubs or are interested in such will chime in and we all can use this posted video as a learning tool? |

Wow... what an interesting thread to stumble upon!
For starters, I am a strolling close / parlour magic / children's magician (although working to pull away from that last part). I have never done Comedy Club magic but have always wanted to... I just don't think I'm funny enough yet... Anyway, great routine Bairefoot! I thought it was very funny! (I definitely felt a bit uncomfortable with how far you pushed the ethnic jokes, but I still laughed - just uncomfortably. ) As for the OP, I'm torn on that one... His routine was definitely flat and the stage was definitely left a mess. Also agree that this isn't the place to post a "watch me" video (that's what youtube and instagram are for). But... I also didn't like how directly (and maybe harshly) the negative feedback was. I'm not suggesting that we need to provide feedback with "kid gloves", but we need to remember that we're all human and that we all have an ego and feelings! I actually didn't watch every minute of the performance, but I'm sure there was a thing or two in there to actually complement! For example, he definitely seemed like he felt comfortable on stage! So... just my
Tada!...

Wow, I just popped in on this thread from months ago....I was doing something most of the haters here apparently do not...WORKING! It is sad when someone posts an innocent clip of a live performance and they get ridiculed for it, like I said...post yours! I have been accused by you fine folks of being disrespectful for littering the stage to performing "kids" tricks. First of all apparently I am not vulgar like almost every comedian around, at this night of comedy everyone used the "F" word fluently and mentioned their political affiliation immediately, which is a sign of a true amateur...I am sure if I was this way you would of loved me. I have been performing nearly 40 years full time and sold magic effects worldwide to top magicians, search my name. I really do not have to prove anything to you. What sad bunch of individuals which futher proves how unprofessional our field has sunk!

Once again you couldn't be more wrong and you're not being able to accept constructive critique, and your beliefs and perceptions about literally everything you said in the above post, unfortunately, are that of an amateur. Not to mention you still have no idea to whom you're talking about and their level of experience. Sad, but so common in magic on this level.

I've been retired for 10 years, but, I worked school assemblies, coast to coast and border to border, for 50 years, and, was never at liberty!
Principals, usually book the talent, but, they do listen to their staff. If the custodian or janitor, needs to clean up the gym or stage floor because the talent left a mess, it's quite likely that the principal wont buy that program again. I was booked for MANY REPEATS. I never did tricks (e,g,"snowstorm") or routines that left a mess. I did add the Stewart James "Tip Cee" bottle for high schools in my last 20 years on the road, I ALWAYS told the custodian that tipcee would spill about a half cup of water, and asked him to have an old gym towel available. The custodian was always ready with a towel. My mentors had told me to ask for a waste basket (I didn't NEED ONE, but the custodian always cheerfully got one!

Hey Anverdi. Sorry you feel this way. I have seen your other videos of some of the things you have put together. Some great ideas with the electronics. I always love to watch them because I love the reactions your wife gives when you are doing the magic. Here is some information for you. What you showed us was a comedy club and your magic and comedy did not fit. I not saying you need to curse or say bad words because I normally don't say those things either. You stuff just was not funny you did magic at a comedy club (this makes it harder for professionals like me who do the comedy and magic to get the big money or even get hired because of the kind of act you did. Let's be honest how much laughter did you hear? And the F bomb you are talking about the comedy clubs do not want you to use this and if you do you will not be hired by outsiders of the comedy club. (But some still do they are nervous most of the time),.. Their are different kinds of magicians, some invent, some perform, some are agents, and etc. You need to know your place and you can only do this by trying new thing. So I applaud you for doing your act but, did you learn anything from it. No more bashing did you learn anything from it. If not I would be glad to help you see how to improve it for free. Just to let you know I do my shows every night even has a theatre show here in Myrtle Beach SC. I put one of my clips up like you asked. Hope you will let me or us help you.
