I've often toyed with the idea of just reversing my last name and performing as "Scotty Marc". When I first came up with the idea, fellow magi kept saying, "That sounds like a good magician's name!"
About 2 weeks later after coming up with that idea, someone finally said, "Yeah, that sounds like a great magician's name - Scotty York's!" Trivia: Food networks fans and older Nickelodeon fans will probably know Marc Summers. "Marc Summers" isn't his real name. He changed when he started going into show business as a magician. Unfortunately, there was already a well-known magician with his real name. What is Marc Summer's real name? Mark Wilson! |

After my junior year of High School, I attended the New Mexico Boys State (it's a mock government educational thing-a-ma-jig) where I first made a name for myself as a magician. By the third day, everyone there knew me as "Magic Mark." I'm not sure who pinned it on me, but I would just walk into a room, and the whole room of three-hundred guys would start to chant "magic mark... magic mark..." It was cool... then near the end, I was showing these two guys (who may have been under the influence of some illegal substance, now that I think about it... they seemed kind of out-of-it) a simple biddle trick, two card montes, and some coin sleights... when I pulled a coin out of thin air, this one guy looked at me stunned, with this blank look on his face, and said, "you're like a pirate." His friend, with the same blank expession, added without missing a beat, "yeah... a gypsy pirate."
I laughed 'til I was in tears. And now, I am Magic Mark, the Gypsy Pirate.

That's the title of a Marion Zimmer Bradley book, and I'm not sure she's been dead long enough for her estate to let me use that title.
Nice thought, though! |

Mistress of Magic is very good..you can't copyright a title...Unless I'm thinking of some one else entirely mariam Bradley used to do tarot readings in the cellar at Earthquake McGoons in SF back in the sventies.

I wouldn't be surprised if MARIAN Zimmer Bradley did Tarot readings, as she was part of the Pagan movement before her death.
Diva of Darkness. Nice, but it sounds like I'm a high-maintenance you-know-what. My post has gone to two pages...WOOHOO! |

Dayanara. Just ran across this. What fun. Naming ones self. My first name was Ivan the Magician.I was quite young an not sure what the influence was. In my late teens I became Slighdini the magician I think you can figure that one out. Again, I wanted change. Now the reference is: The Magic of Lord Blasto. I've had this name for ten years now. I wanted the word Lord in my name, but it took sometime to get the blasto. I took a dictionary and just began looking. Thus Blasto. People comment on the name and remember it and me. An that's what it's all about...hehehe. Good luck brainstorming. Simple and wondrous. Yes Yes.
Magic is. For if magic is of the mind. www.lordblasto.com

This is such a good topic. Personally, I've always avoided adjectives that people wanted to introduce me as such as "The Amazing" or "The Magnificent." My wife and I used to use "The Magic of Vin and Laurie" but I always realized that Copperfield used that too.
Well, due to her own career Laurie is not available to work with me 100% of the time so everything has changed to "Magic! with Vincent." I like using a title to describe what the families are getting as opposed to "who" they are getting. |

Nice little topic Dayanara!
I use my given frst name (Chris) and my birthmothers maiden name (Maguire) to get "Chris Maguire". not sure why, I just like the way it sounds. I could have used my real surname, Zampese (pronounced a bit more like zampeezee). people often say, when they find out I am a magician, "oh yeah, you've got a great last name for it!". Which is precisely why I wanted to change it! I didn't like the fact that people were comparing me to "wunderini" (or whatever) the half-drunk kids birthday magician their friend hired a year ago, which is what the "ini" name often conjures up among the public!
The most beautiful experience we can have is the mysterious. It is the fundamental emotion which stands at the cradle of true art and true science. Whoever does not know it and can no longer wonder, no longer marvel, is as good as dead, and his eyes are
