There was some discussion in the topic: " Who makes the highest quality silks" and this thread is an offshoot of one of the replies.
People were asking about silk for the Potassy routine. You can buy both Pure 100% Silk fabric hemmed and in various sizes (50,60cm and larger) and some polyester twill scarves also in the same sizes. All of which is in the $2.50 to 6.00 range (per scarf)! As a test, I bought directly from AliExpress (which is a direct from the Chinese Vendor -Amazon type website)a couple of 60 cm 'silk' scarves The patterns and colors are bold enough and the scarves I bought have the preferred flat hems, instead of the rolled ones which while luxurious, are less useful for magic purposes). It feels like a 10 momme fabric which is heavier and denser than Rice brand silks, as a point of comparison, (but of course Rice silks are 100% Pure silk) . They have lots of patterns to choose from and mine are 60 cm (about 24" square) in a geometric pattern with dots. Suitable for stage I should think... But what I got... was NOT pure silk! It was a polyester fabric with much of the same handling quality of pure silk: smooth, easy flow, soft. Still, It works well for the effect and for a set of six, your investment would not be very great. Personally, I previously made my own set of 12 momme weight pure silks and hemmed them myself. More expensive and more time consuming to make, but I must say that what I bought is well worth what I paid. About $2.50 each! Just be aware that much of what they advertise is NOT pure silk, but a fair substitute. They list on the website that the delivery time can be up to 45 days! But mine arrived in two weeks. Burlington Coat Outlet often has pocket squares of this material and many prints for $3.50. Of course it is not silk so it is not transparent. Cup & Ball people use them.
Frankly for Sympathetic Silks these synthetics do not hang like real silk. |

Bob, Not sure about those at Burlington Outlet. I do know about those in the picture I posted. They DO hang like real silk.
And they function perfectly well for the Sympathetic silk effect. Other applications have yet to be tested.
