Pretty much trying to put the toothpaste back into the toothpaste tube. Good luck with that. Who cares about regulation? Not the "regulators." Here today, gone today.

The world's primary feudal landowner is Queen Elizabeth II. She is Queen of 32 countries, head of a Commonwealth of 54 countries in which a quarter of the world's population lives, and legal owner of about 6.6 billion acres of land, one-sixth of the earth's land surface. Legally, she can do no wrong.

https://www.nature.com/articles/s41599-019-0279-9 How many books have you read this month? The regulators may have a revolving door into industry - but you can choose which rewards you want from their game.

The Queen is ‘The Crown’. Crown land also known as royal domain or demesne, is a territorial area belonging to the monarch. It is called “Crown Land” and not “Flat Cap Land” for a reason. The Queen here is the only absolute owner of the land. Everyone else owns an estate in land, either freehold or leasehold.

Incorrect. Have you forgotten we executed our last absolute monarch? We tried a republic, and we didn't like it. So we invited his son to sit on OUR thrown, and wear OUR crown, under OUR rules.
Thus was born the constitutional monarchy and the transfer of power to representative parliament. The Queen reigns by the authority of the people. Her Crown, our crown that we allow her to wear, is representative of that. We own it. See Rousseau's Social Contract for further enlightenment. Respectfully |

This distinction between the crown and the person of the monarch was a plot element in a recent Charlie Stross novel.

Nobody said the Queen owns all the land in the world. If “our” means the USA then it is owned the people: the people of China if you don’t pay the mortgage.

Why would it mean the U.S.A? They don't have crown land. They are not a constitutional monarchy.

Does the missus get to wear the jewels? Is there a sign-up sheet?

If “our” means Canada, then 90% the land of Canada is owned by Queen Elizabeth II, who is also the head of state.

Today, in Commonwealth realms such as Canada and Australia, crown land is considered public land and is apart from the monarch's private estate." The Queen cannot sell the land because it is permanently attached to the crown. The crown is the public. |

Sorry Landmark, could you be more specific? What I meant was this: If the crown land is public land and the crown jewels are public property, can my wife or mother (Australian and British subjects, respectively) wear the crown at the next cookout on the Buckingham Palace lawn? What does public in this context mean? How does it differ functionally from private?

No. It is illegal, and impossible, for the Queen to sell crown land.

It isn't hers to sell. It belongs to the crown by the constitution. It is public land.
Basic law. Lots of writings for further reading if youre interested but I suspect youre having a bit of fun now. Anyway, onward. |
