The Other Brothers is going to release something called Midnight Breakfast. Does anyone knows what it is? I can't find any info on the web.

Finally, this is out:
https://www.murphysmagic.com/Product.aspx?id=64736 Description: Midnight Breakfast is a gigantic leap forward in the "Out to Lunch" principle as it requires no rubber bands, no clips and is 100% organic with everyday objects. With this invisible gimmick, you can perform every Out to Lunch effect to create powerful, visual moments. The Other Brothers also teach new and original effects never before possible with existing gimmicks, including a deeply fooling multi-phase routine, using any currency, involving: a torn & restored bill, magic that happens in the spectator's hands and an object to impossible location. Midnight Breakfast by The Other Brothers and The Abstract Effect Team is one of the most versatile utility gimmicks on the market; from mentalism to visual magic, you can do it all with just one gimmick! |

I assume you are restricted in using currency. Even though each tiem you do the effect, you have to use a fresh bill. I guess you can simply spend that bill with the signature on it since it is still legal tender. So it really should not be a problem. This does look good and "organic as compared to an "inorganic" r.....d standard gimmick.
I wonder if you can keep this gimmick on the bill at all times inside your wallet and how is the reset. Michael

I absolutely love the OTL principle. Been using variations of it for 30 yrs. Not really sure it needs to be improved upon but am always excited to try out new OTL routines.

I am really like the idea of using OTL principle without any rubber or clip. Looking forward to hearing the review.

As I said, I absolutely love the OTL principle. It is one of the most versatile principles in all of magic IMO and I've done at least 10 versions of it over the past 30 years. My bud Michael Dustman even designed business cards for me so that I can do a cool fork bending variation with forks that are printed on the back of my business cards. I've used the rubber band version, Stockholder and, most recently, the Harry Robson wallet that has a nice OTL feature built into the wallet. It's one of those methods that is super easy and nearly perfect. Here, the Other Brothers have come up with a method that uses bills instead of business cards and the selling point is that you don't need rubber bands or any other type of cover to mask the setup. There is a gimmick, but it is invisible. The tutorial is over an hour long and the Daryls do a nice job of explaining the gimmick and many variations including a really nice three phased routine using two signed bills that incorporates a torn and restored corner, a tear that magically appears on a signed bill the spectator is holding and the reappearance of the torn corner in an impossible location ala Madison's Angle Z. The nice thing about the gimmick is that you can also use this for every other version of OTL you already know if you'd like to use bills instead of business cards. It''s a nice project with literally endless possibilities. I think most people will use this for the three phase torn corner routine but with some minimal thinking, I think people can come up with some really cool applications for this.
So ti delivers as advertised. You do get the ability to alter a bill that the spectator can clearly sign without the necessity of rubber bands or other types of cover. The biggest negative I see is that the signature process is not as free as the normal OTL method allows. With the normal OTL principle, you can hand the stack of cards to the spectator to hold while they sign. In this version, you cannot do that. The handling is not necessarily cozy but you do have to make sure that no one is behind you or to the extreme sides. Another consideration is that the reset is not always automatic depending on the effect you decide to use with MB. The three phased routine, for example, is not an automatic reset. The reset is not hard or time-consuming by any means, but it is more involved than for normal OTL tricks. If you choose to do normal OTL effects with this method, the reset is automatic however. So it just depends on what you intend to use this for. The other consideration is that if you intend to give away the altered bill at the end, you literally are giving away money every time you do the trick. If you use $1's, it's not a big loss but it's still a consideration. The final consideration is that by using money instead of business cards, you are losing out on one of the main benefits of the normal OTL effects...you don't get to give away your business card. The gimmick comes pre-made which is a great touch and they teach you how to make another one if you ever need to. This will also work with plastic currency which is nice for people outside the US. The gimmick is basic but clever and works really well. If you want to do OTL effects with money or you are really hung up on using rubber bands or some kind of cover, this is worth the money. As for whether I will actually use this, I'm still up in the air. I will definitely play with it some more, but I think that the normal OTL with business cards is just so strong, efficient and clean that it's hard to beat. I've never cared one bit about using rubber bands or any other type of cover. No one in hundreds of performances has ever questioned it and I love the freedom of being able to hand the stack to the spectators and let them hold while they sign. It adds a nice "if these were gimmicked, he wouldn't let me hold them" feel that you lose out on with MB. Plus, giving a business card in an altered state really is the only way to get people to actually care about let alone keep your business card these days. I do really like the three phase routine the Daryls created, but I already do and love Angle Z which is killer and basically requires almost no setup. Overall, a nice project from the Brothers. If you like what you see in the trailer, you won't be disappointed with this. |

Great review, Eric. Thank you. I too have used the OTL principle for decades, and to do so with bills and no band appears so clean. I can manage the signature while holding the bills. Picking this one up.

Any suggestions how to make the Grippo tear. The instructions are so quick and unclear and shot at the worst angle, I went through 10 bills and still can’t make it look good

Does anyone have this? Is there anyone who understands this Grippo tear technique? The Other Brothers have not responded to any of my emails asking for help.
Wow what a waste of money this was. I literally can’t perform this because the OB couldn’t be bothered to film a decent tutorial Really a bummer |
