Just looking for a little background:
Years and years ago, I purchased a prediction trick in which there were many pictures or symbols on a thin flimsy card board strip a little larger that a bookmark. The strip was wrapped in a piece of paper with lines. The spectator would cut one of the lines. The picture underneath would be the chosen image. Does anyone recall where this first appeared, who invented this and what it is called. I recall Dan Harlan doing this on one of his DVDs, but it must have predated him by a long, long time. I figure there must be a thread on this somewhere on the Café |

The thread recommended by TonyBrand deals mostly with the better-known newspaper column prediction using a similar method. I wish I could tell you where the version with pictures originated, but I've been unable to find any sources. I was first introduced to it in the same way you describe. Maybe someone else can chime in with the answer... or a lead?

Thanks Tony, but that is different effect. Thanks Dan as well. Racking my memory here, but I think I got it in the late 1980s or early 1990s at Philadelphia Magic which was co-owned by Danny Archer and Marty Martin.
Any tips on creating this in the modern era. Really no limits on what can be fo***d. Just some experimentation with spacing on a computer. |

Maverick Magic came out with a version called "Ultimate Prediction" many years ago using numbers instead of pictures. Doesn't answer your question, though.

As I recall this has been used as an ESP symbol force which is easy enough to make. After the cut the spectator is asked to put one piece in each pocket thus obscuring the modus operandi. I think I saw it on the Carlyle Touch DVD.
