I know the principle and the techniques used are not totally new but I have made it impromptu and from a shuffled deck and added the possibility for the spectator to cut the cards before starting to deal. Also the principle that allows it to work I have modified so it is easier to do from a shuffled deck, this way of doing it I have not come across elsewhere. So it can be done from a normal shuffled deck.

In my restaurant work, I've found that tricks with a lot of procedure just don't work. I'd rather just force a card and then control it. But that doesn't mean this trick wouldn't work in another setting.

I would not do tricks which involve giving the deck to the spectator to deal or tricks which have dealing in them table hopping. But I don't find this trick itself boring, I think there are many good tricks that have dealing in them.

Personally I could have done without the profanity in the video. To each his/her own. Magic should be direct and to the point. Too much procedure and loss of focus leads to confusion which as Vernon aptly put it, "isn't magic".
It's never crowded on the extra mile....

Do you think it was not to the point? After the card was taken out it was put back in the deck, the spectator then cut and starts dealing. Performance wise it was not as fast as could but it was my choice because of who I was performing for.

For table hopping/restaurants avoid tricks that use the table surface."a trick in the hand is worth ten on the table." the exception is sponge balls.which is a must in that setting.involved card trix are death, they're just too polite to tell you.nobody can see well w/all that crap on the table.short, quick "up"pops, eye candy if you will, allow you to disengage when necessary,to please the waitstaff.you're just killing time until the food arrives...
God's grace rocks! It makes a good cups and balls routine look pretty boring in comparison.

Count me among those who think the trick is too procedural and a bit boring. But then, I'm one who thinks Out Of This World is a boring procedural trick. And I can't stand the Magic Square for the same reason.
IMHO such tricks only "work" if the procedure is dressed up in a way that the procedure itself is cause for fascination. I'm thinking of OOTW versions by Rob Zabrecky that involve photos and a story about Harry and Bess Houdini, and Jim Critchlow's version using photos of people on the Titanic. With those, the procedure itself is a story completely unrelated to the cards being used. Whereas this trick is about counting stacks of cards, and using a procedure to determine the number to count. That kind of thing gets boring in a hurry, and doesn't seem very magical, to me. It comes off more as a puzzle than anything else. Not like, "Wow! That's impossible!" and more like, "Hm. How did it work out that way?" Just my opinion. Your mileage may vary. Note that I'm not criticizing your method of taking a stacked trick and doing it impromptu. I think that's awesome. I'm just not a fan of the trick itself.

Harry, I learned the magic square from one of your books. I memorized the numbers and lately, I go over them in my mind while waiting to go to sleep. It's my mantra "eight, eleven, fourteen. one, etc.

Nice combination of known principles and techniques. But like others, I think it can’t be really magical because it’s too procedural. You would never do that if you could do real magic.

I sure wanted to stop doing my magic square many decades ago (because not really magic/too procedural) - but I would have missed the screams, applaud, standing ovations that occurred after EVERY TIME I performed it. (To each his own no?)

So what would you do? Make a spectator disappear? Most think I can do "real" magic when I do some of my card stuff for them. So, forgive my cliché - to each his own.

Oh, and I never, EVER, pull a deck out of my pocket and ask if they'd like to see some card magic. NEVER. Just the other way around...someone pulls a deck out of HIS pocket and pleads for me to "PLEASE DO SOME MAGIC FOR US."

If you'd never ask anyone to pick a card, etc., then you obviously don't know how to do that (find it) and MAKE IT MAGICAL AND ENTERTAINING. Suggest you start reading the good stuff!!!!
