It's my video. It uses the Sefalaljia principle. Daryl explains this in Expert Rope Magic, volume 2, Hindu Ring on Rope. I don't know where I got the idea for using trousers, but basically, where Daryl uses a finger to hold the rope loop in place, I use a carabiner clipped onto one of my belt loops behind my back. It's not that hard (with practice)

I looked at my original post from some years ago. It seems at the time that I did think the karabiner idea was my own variation on Sefalaljia, and since no one else has claimed it, I hereby do so!

I found the Daryls DVD with Hindu rope. I see he uses his finger, so this could be done behind back with Carabiner. Must start practicing.

Yes, it's exactly the same. You do need a fairly long rope or else it comes unthreaded from your belt loops while you're doing the secret work. Good luck with it.

Are you talking about the old Chinese knot?

Pleased I found this thread ... it was previously discussed in Secret Sessions.
This answers the question of where I can find this effect ... many thanks |

To me this looks like a number of standard ring and rope moves. The guy put the sequence together himself.
The secret for the finale is simple beginner magic. Duplicate rings. |

The method Bill proposes could be the answer to the final effect, but it is also possible that it is Sefalaljia III, by Charles Nyquist.

Hi Mr. Jenkins, what a delight to see your performance. It is incredible to see people commenting on this and to have you come forth and be so kind as to explain.
I did fiddle with the routine from Magic Balay. I liked a better display for the ring on shoe string, so I enhanced the gimmick so you can show it more clearly. So it looks like it is really on, without having to move it much. |
