Does anyone know who the maker of this trick is and have you seen this before? Silks go into the top and when the panels are removed
the silks are gone and spring snakes shoot out. I am try to find out more information on it. Thanks Click here to view attached image.

There are magic prop builders in Tennessee. Why not do some searching, as spring snake effects were not made by big names magic shops. Owen Magic made a rifle, and that was about it. These days flying objects is not acceptable.

Believe me I have searched and searched. I have asked the Tennessee prop builders plus many other prop builders. I have emailed most older Brick and Morters. (Stevens, Hocus Pocus, etc.) I am hoping someone here may have seen one somewhere or may even have one. Flying objects such as spring snakes are very acceptable. One of the best props to use. Anywhere and any time.

Are you trying to build/repair/restore the prop or come up with a better way to perform the same trick?

Someone has it for sale has sent me pics and has no idea how it works. I am trying to decide if I want to buy it or not.

Do you want a box that changes silks into spring snakes, or do you want the effect of silks suddenly turning into spring snakes? If you want a box trick, buy it and figure out how it works. If not, learn how to do it without the box.

Magicbyswh, I have studied many of the old catalogs in my day. Pre-Internet, that is what you did, order catalogs and constantly study them and their offerings. I have never seen a drawing of such a prop. It design reminds me of what sometimes pops up at a magic shop, from a guy making props in his garage or basement. Not usually fine wood working or very good paint jobs.
There were a number of short lived prop builder from your area of the country, that is why I suggested seeking them out. Even if they are not in business any longer other magic stores may have sold their props at one time or another. I do not put Hocus-Pocus or Stevens Magic as old established Magic shops. That prop looks like it is from the 1970's style of building building props. Could even be a magician just built it for himself. If that picture is a true representation of the prop, I will say, snakes were never made with black materal. It was usually spotted brown and black spots to look more like a snake with scales. Good luck with your quest and decision. |
