Doric - which begs the question, why did you buy it in the first place?
With regards to it's "cheap tattiness"... was it because of the prop or how it worked? I mean, I've had these growing up, never knew where they came from... probably some cereal box or something. They always felt cheap, though. All the best, Dan |

We have a gross misunderstanding of words here on the Café. Perhaps I shouldn't have given the various numbers. It would be nice to have 3-4 different numbers. As much as you boys tear down effect and analyze all the ins and outs, seems humorous about my confusion. Best Steve

Personally I like this trick as I used to play with them all the time. The price might not be bad if you get a quality product. I would like to have 3-5 blanks to be able to mix it up.

I guess the idea here is it takes people back to a time when they remember these puzzles, the way it handles is normal and those that have experienced these puzzles will see this one is better made to stand up to repeated use, but it still feels and handles like the normal puzzle.

That’s a fair comment Mark, yes they always were a pain to move. I’m just a little perplexed by the price.

If the pound was around $1.40 for example this would be one sale for around £40!

Yes if they hadn’t messed around with Brexit for 3 years and got it done we would be fine again by now .
Uncertainty causes the market fluctuations not Brexit as that hasn’t even happened yet Gaz 🙂 |

This looks great! The price is very reasonable to me for a pocket sized miracle with 3 different outcomes!

I think he means the trick had 3 different outcomes / effects.
The magic square, the solve and a custom one. If you chose to do this strolling you would have 3 versions of the effect at your disposal which is far better than the same outcome every time.

To me, if it didn't feel like crappy plastic thing, and it was made out of chrome plated steel, I wouldn't want it. But I agree the price point might be a bit steep. And yes, Brexit... because brexit means brexit. Means that the sterling is in a terrible state...but this is a good thing, apparently.

On Aug 17, 2019, Steven Conner wrote: That's clearly not what you meant from your original post where you mentioned "65 possibilities." With any fixed group of 16 numbers there is only going to be at most ONE possible magic square total. The trick is that you're putting this mixed up puzzle into a magic square. The total of the square itself has no bearing on the impressiveness of the trick. You said: "No guys, I'm not confused. If you're going to do a magic square concept and there's only one answer, doesn't seem quite so impressive especially for strolling." Actually you are confused and that's fine. I'm not trying to be critical, but now you're forcing yourself to try to justify something you misunderstood rather than just saying that you misunderstood. We know you were confused because you said, "Only one answer, doesn't seem quite so impressive" The answer isn't supposed to be the impressive part. The answer itself is irrelevant, it was set in stone when the puzzle was created in 1874. "Especially for strolling" means you think having different numbers at different tables would be a good thing, but it wouldn't because then it would be clear there's something weird about the puzzle if someone saw it produce two different magic square totals. |

The MS to me is not a one number pony. So the 65 numbers was nothing more than comparing 1 solution to 65. And yes with a different type of gimmick, it might even be possible. Since a gimmick is involved I actually thought of other possibilities. You don't have to agree with my comments as I certainly don't agree with many on this forum but certainly don't out of the clear blue start attacking them. You are one shallow individual. Not only are you a idiot but a Fool to think you can read minds too. Steve

And I hurt your feelings and now you're lashing out. "The MS to me is not a one number pony." Yes, WHEN WRITTEN ON PAPER, but not when done with a classic puzzle and a fixed number range. That's the part you were confused about. Now you're floundering around, trying to make your initial statement make sense. You're suggesting what you actually meant was you wanted to have different numbers to slot in for the sake of making different magic squares DESPITE THE FACT THE SPECIFIC TOTAL ON THE MAGIC SQUARE HAS NO BEARING ON THE EFFECT. So you'd rather walk around with a plastic puzzle with random numbers, that serves no purpose, and no longer looks like something people are familiar with for the sake of a different total on a magic square. Even though the total itself doesn't matter to the effect. You criticized the effect for not being very "impressive" because you could only arrive at one total with the magic square. That criticism alone shows your confusion. Now you're trying to hide your confusion behind the idea that this is you being "creative." I really hope for your sake this is not what your creativity looks like. You can have the final word here if you want and then we can all move on. |
