“forangel” is a coin maker to watch for sure. I really like the Chinatown and Copper/Silver gaffs. CSBs need some work if comparing to established producers.

Davies to watch too!

I love the 64'Kennedy/New Zealand Penny coin I purchased. I've never really liked the English penny. The New Zealand Penny has a bird on it, which is funnier (See Tommy Wonder's Coins Across). Did a random search and found Forangel, couldn't believe the price. I definitely believe the results now that I have it in hand!

Goto Ebay and message him. Most of his coins seem to be copper/silver sets. I'd bet he could get you a quote. Smile

I see his stuff frequently on eBay, always looks incredible for the value, even with the $20 CDN shipping to Canada. His copper/silver with the Walking Liberty seems like a great value. Anyone have experience with his version?

Side note, it's interesting he's got a sizeable audience just from using eBay as his platform with no external website.

Hi, I just bought a CSB from foranangel (I bought before a C/S coin). The CSB is an East African coin (Shell) an Australian Penny and a WL.
I think this is the best CSB set I have. The shell covers more than 90% of the C/S, and it is not expanded to the point of being deformed, the coins are superb, great coins the C/S (Liberty/Kangaroo) as well as the single coins, the dates of the coins match.
When nested the WL/AP looks like a WL coin, there is no gap between the coin and the shell.

Note: He sent me pics of the C/S coin nested and the coverage of the shell was 80%, I asked him to have a better coverage and he made another C/S, the one I got, that is perfect. Communications was excellent and shipping very fast

Here is a link to the pics (these are the ones foranangel sent me, before sending the coins)

Those are looking pretty nice. If you could post your thoughts after you receive them that'd be really awesome. Smile

I like that his sets are using the African coins which have a really nice aesthetic to them.

The ONLY thing that has hindered me buying a CSB is that the “Shell” isn’t traditional CSB gaff rim. It is actually just a Shell with a C/S Coin inside. Technically, NOT the same gaff. The “rim” of the Silver side of the gaff affords more camouflage with the insert edge at the rim edge.
Most CSBs by Johnson, Lassen, Schoolcraft and yes even Sterling use this machining and most CSB users prefer it!

Otherwise, the other gaffs are fantastic C/S and Chinatown sets!

My take anyway.

I ended up ordering an expanded Barber shell from Losh and it arrived last Friday. I spent the last few days playing around with it and using it in routines I do and compared it to other expanded shells that I've gathered.

From the get-go, the overall experience from messaging Losh on eBay to placing my order was excellent. Communication was very fast, the turnaround time for a reply was at maximum 30 minutes. After I placed the order, Losh sent photos of my order after he finished making it. Then after I confirmed it all looked good, he would then ship it. That's about it. Not much more I can say except it was a good experience.

Turn around time for my shell was a day. That was very unexpectedly fast.

As for the shell itself. I'm pretty happy with it. It fits my Barbers really well with an ever slight amount of wiggle room, which I like for all my shells. And the coverage is by default 100%.

It's a bit of a unique construction that I hadn't encountered before. My guess is that the coin's edges are milled off and then the face of the coin is soldered/welded onto a new rim from a different coin.

Because of the construction method the face has no distortion or relief that's been removed since it's still the same coin along with the fact that the depth of coverage is deep.

The only thing I'm a little iffy about is the slightly bevel edges along the shell. But when I put the shell in practice in front of a mirror and camera at a spectator's point of view and distance, that hasn't been noticeable.

Anyways. I'm a happy camper with this purchase, especially with the Canadian dollar being in the gutter. I finally have a shell for my barber coin set.

I'll also add the order was packaged with care with layers of bubble wrap so you don't have to worry about shipping accidents.
