Thanks, Claudio, I'll jump in:
1. I was born to a poor farming family in eastern Louisiana. 2. I began playing music with two of my cousins, one of whom later became a country music singer, and the other, an evangelist. 3. I was influenced by what I heard on the radio, as well as the sounds from a nearby juke joint. |

4. My mother enrolled me in a Bible school in Texas, so that I would be singing evangelical songs exclusively.

That was quick, Theodore! I really thought this one would last longer. Here are the rest of my clues:
5. But when I daringly played an up-tempo, danceable rendition of "My God Is Real" at a church assembly, it ended my association with the school. 6. After that incident, I went home and started playing at local clubs, becoming part of the burgeoning new rock ’n’ roll sound. 7. Later I traveled to Nashville, where I played in clubs and attempted to build interest, but I was turned down by the Grand Ole Opry. 8. Nevertheless, two years later, my first hit song shot me to fame worldwide. 9. My live performances at this time became increasingly wild and energetic. 10. However, due to a scandalous marriage, my rock ’n’ roll career faltered and my popularity quickly eroded. 11. To reignite my career, I transitioned into country music, which resulted in several top hits on the country-western charts. 12. During my seven-decade career, I’ve had 30 songs reach the top 10 on the Billboard Country and Western Chart. 13. In the 21st century (now at age 84), I still continue to tour around the world. 14. Music critic Robert Christgau wrote about me: "His drive, his timing, his offhand vocal power, his unmistakable boogie-plus piano, and his absolute confidence in the face of the void make him the quintessential rock and roller.” 15. Two of my most famous hits were entitled "Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On" and "Great Balls of Fire”. Jerry Lee Lewis' cousins mentioned in clue #2 are Mickey Gilley and Jimmy Swaggart. Lewis was a a devout Christian, but according to several first-hand sources (including Johnny Cash), he was troubled by the sinful nature of his own material, which he believed was leading him and his audience to hell. Jerry Lee’s turbulent personal life (eventually including six marriages, some bigamous, and one of which ended with a suspicious drowning death), was hidden from the public until a 1958 British tour, where a journalist learned about Lewis's third wife, Myra Gale Brown. She was Lewis's first cousin once removed and 13 years old, while Lewis was 22 years old. The publicity caused an uproar, and the tour was cancelled after only three concerts. That was when his career faltered, and his popularity quickly eroded (clue #10). |

My first thought was Johnny Cash, but he's not from Louisiana. Then I remembered a movie about Johnny (Walk The Line maybe?) which depicts Jerry as being very troubled about their music and the fact that they were all, "going to hell!" Clue 4 lead me to guess it was him.
I've been lurking here for a couple of weeks but I haven't known any of them. Anywho... I'll take a stab at doing this I guess.

Touche Landmark! Sometimes it's hyphenated I believe.
These last clues should give it away. 10. In spite of all the above, I'm best known for my work in astronomy 11. My published book is recognized as a major event in the history of science and triggered a scientific revolution named after me 12. I made several planetary observations that undoubtedly contributed to the model I published in my historic book: On The Revolutions Of The Celestial Spheres.

13. The work I'm most famous for wasn't popular with the church as this model placed the sun at the center of the universe rather than the earth.

No, sorry, I just thought his comment was funny, and correct if it were true; hence touche, he scored a point for being funny.
Sorry guys, I thought the astronomy stuff would be a dead giveaway. I guess I'm a real nerd. It's Copernicus, Nicholas Copernicus. The economic principle he developed was further developed, I guess by "Gresham" and it became known as Gresham's law or the Gresham-Copernicus law. Here's the Wikipedia link. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nicolaus_Copernicus

Theodore, I would have had Copernicus at clue # 10, but I was off line last night.
