Landmark, I was sure that you would know who this is.
In a TV series that ran from 1961 to 1963, I first played an auto body man, then a police officer. |

Landmark, do you want to name him, or should I give another clue?

OK. The above-mentioned TV series had a questionable title, and a pretty catchy theme song, too.

My character in this show had the name of a German dog breed.

But I am probably best remembered for my role in a different 1960’s TV show, in which I played a lovable grandfather who could transform into a bat.

You got it, Karnak! (Although Landmark also figured it out a few clues ago).
Al Lewis was born Abraham Meister. The “questionable title” clue was meant to imply “Car 54, Where Are You?” … (it ends in a question mark). Al Lewis’ character name in that show was Schnauzer. And of course he played the role of Grandpa, a Count Dracula-style vampire, in The Munsters TV series (1964 to 1966). Other interesting facts: In 1987, during a "Howard Stern Freedom Rally" against the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) that was broadcast live, Al Lewis repeatedly shouted "!@#$ the FCC!" until Stern was able to take the microphone away from him. That same year, he opened an Italian restaurant named Grampa's Bella Gente in Manhattan. And finally, both Al Lewis and Landmark broadcast on WBAI radio 99.5 FM. |

Al Lewis was quite an interesting guy. And a good actor, in his own unique way; he certainly had his own highly identifiable style.
I'll come up with something tomorrow -- just finished a 2000-mile cross-country move, and I'm beat. (Or if someone else has something ready to go, feel free to step in.)

I was born in NYC in 1911, and died in LA in 1975 (at age 64).
I was a well-known composer/conductor, and am remembered for many highly regarded film & TV scores. In 2005, AFI (the American Film Institute) ranked two of my scores at #4 and #12 on its list of the 25 greatest film scores ever; my scores for seven other films were also nominated for that list.

As Karnak knows, this is my area, but I'm not yet certain.
I believe it is Bernard Herrmann.
My ex-cat was named "Muffin". "Vomit" would be a better name for her. AKA "The Evil Ball of Fur".

Bernard Herrmann it is! Best known for his scores for a number of Hitchcock & Ray Harryhausen films.
Over to you, Chessman!

One of the greats!
Years ago, when I was studying film scoring, I subscribed to an “underground” quarterly magazine booklet published by Elmer Bernstein, which was designed for serious film composers/students. Each issue analyzed excerpts of scores by Bernstein and other great film composers (including Bernard Herrmann). It was an amazing publication, and I felt so privileged to be a subscriber. Anyone who enjoys film music should read the Wikipedia bio of Bernard Herrmann. Amazing, uncompromising composer who understood how to subtly covey, with music, character traits not obviously portrayed by the actors onscreen. |

This morning I drove 3 hours and am currently sitting in a college baseball conference tournament. I'll have someone this evening. If someone has a clue and wants to go ahead, that's perfectly fine by me.
My ex-cat was named "Muffin". "Vomit" would be a better name for her. AKA "The Evil Ball of Fur".

BTW, when I was 15 I sat down to watch "Psycho" on tv. Herrmann's opening title music was so affective on me that for the next 2 years my dream was to compose for films. Learned all about Elmer B., Miklos R, et al...

And don't overlook the obscure but busy genre favorite Mischa Bakaleinikoff (scored Earth vs the Flying Saucers, 20 Million Miles to Earth, etc.).

I was born in 1938.
I am most well-known for 2 wildly successful tv shows from the 1970's. I was a supporting player in the first, and a star in the second.
My ex-cat was named "Muffin". "Vomit" would be a better name for her. AKA "The Evil Ball of Fur".

I'm a guy.
I performed with local groups in Philadelphia before moving to New York to study with Lloyd Richards at the Negro Ensemble Company. While I was on Broadway, a TV producer called in 1971 to play the recurring supporting role in a tv show. I was reluctant to leave my theatre role, but the producer told me that he would hold the role open for me - what an incredible compliment. I joined the show two years later.
